I have been frequenting Sunsplash since they opened. My favorite is oxtails, rice&peas, cabbage, and plantain. The plate has... always contained a substantial amount of everything; the oxtails have always been tender; and everything has always been wellseasoned. I've been to Jamaica MANY, MANY times over the past 22 years, and Sunsplash is definitely comparable to ANY Jamaicanfood I've ever had and surely the best in Hampton & Newport News! OMG! This was my 1st time trying Sunsplash Caribbean Restaurant and they did not disappoint! 1st off the customer service was... outstanding the woman behind the counter taking orders was courteous & professional from start to finish. I had the oxtails withrice & peas, cabbage & plantains. It was delicious oxtails came right off the bone unlike some other places, cabbage was wellseasoned, rice & peas moist & flavorful! This was my second (and last) time buying food there. The first experience was bad but I thought that I would give them another... try. Big mistake. I ordered the oxtails with rice, peas, cabbage and plantains. The oxtails were small bite size pieces withlittle meat on them and very sweet (too much sugar in the oxtails!) The rice and peas were hard and the cabbage portion wassmall. All this mess costs me over $20! No wonder its never crowded, the food is not good. I ordered a large oxtail which came up to 24 dollars there was like only 6 oxtail in there one of them didn't even have meat on... it just a bone. The food was bland. My first and last time going to this restaurant. Read more

Last weekend my wife and I went on a date and stopped in on this hidden gem called Sunsplash Caribbean restaurant LLC located at... 52 W Mercury Blvd, Hampton, VA 23669. Unfortunately, YELP has not updated its data base for this location. Based on the portionsshow below, recommend their spicy beef Pattie?s. In addition we also ordered their jerk chicken and snapper meals that came withcabbage and beans and rice. The snapper was at least 1 inch thick.We we?re amazed and excited to see the portion sizes whichwere plentiful for anyone wanting a mouth watering meal that also remembers me of a great home cooked meal. It was simply...OK. This is my first time at this establishment and I probably won't be back. I ordered a small oxtail that... automatically came with a ton of rice and peas (that were sweet and somewhat dry...stingy with the gravy which was also sweet)and cabbage (which was the most delicious part of the meal). I ordered some mac and cheese as well and that was bland andgreasy. The oxtails were tender though. The flavors weren't giving that authentic Jamaican. Read more

Goat was good but portions were small, peeved because they charged me extra for what I thought would be real jamaican yams and... provisions, instead I got SWEET POTATO. I honestly feel scammed :-(. Other order = a few pieces of goat and a TON of rice. Don'tmind paying $17 for food but would expect my money's worth!
