Not even sure where to start! I booked this venue for an event, sight unseen and worked with Toni to coordinate everything up... until the event. The service was absolutely amazing. Toni was the friendliest and most considerate person I?ve worked with inthis industry. The Brewery itself is such a great space! The bar area to the outside patio and not to mention the upstairscigar lounge. Hands down, this place deserves 5 stars +++. The design is top notch. I ordered the pizza two days in a row.Both times were amazing. The wings & fries were fantastic too. Did I mention, they also serve coffee drinks in addition the fullbar?!?! It was really nice ????. It is in an older building in Phoebus with an old school feel. There is live music on the weekends. ... The beverages are delicious and the wait staff are wonderful. They also serve food. I ordered the mango ginger drink with the1865 beer added (beer they brew) and it was one of the BEST ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES I've ever tasted. Check em out. Read more
Everything you'd be looking for from a neighborhood, dive Brewery. This place will surely be there for some time. The... atmosphere was chill. They serve food (I didn't order any so I won't review it). They have a nice but quaint patio withcomfortable patio furniture. There's a firepit for for colder nights outside. You're able to view their "brewing equipment" viaa glass window inside (nice touch). They offer drip coffee which provides a caffeinated experience without the bitter taste oftraditional coffee (its a smoother cup of coffee that reminds you of tea). Theier variety was great offering: Assorted Flights,cider, IPAs and traditional beer. As a new guy in the area, I'd surely return for a quick date night or a night out with theguys. As someone who loves beer and breweries, this is a great addition to the peninsula. I travel and have lived many places, and... this genuinely rates amongst the top brewery destinations I have been to. I'm my opinion, Capstain is still the best place to gopurely for the beer (They are in my global pantheon of beer makers), but this stands out as the place on the peninsula to go fora date or with the wife. The beer is good across the board, I would come back specifically for the juicy IPA, that was uniquelygood. The coffee is great, and they have a solid seltzer base with a good selection of flavors to add, and they have anadventurous menu, which is awesome. My wife enjoyed being able to get hot tea, as well as nice food, and said I can take herthere any time. So purely on quality of product, this is a must visit spot, and I will be back frequently. On a somewhatseparate note, this is the first black owned brewery on the peninsula. I am a white male with basically all of the privilege.Every time I have come into a brewery and seen a crowd of almost only middle aged upper middle class white men it has struck methat If beer is proof that God loves is and wants us to be happy, it shouldn't be only people who look like me out here enjoyingit. This place has seemed to break that barrier, and that is important. It's just beer, but it's not. So, thank you to theowners, and to all the people who support this place for whatever reasons you do. At last! 1865 is "soft" opened! The bartenderistas were friendly and answered the few questions I had about the coffee. They... have tea, food, beer, and other beverages. It's definitely worth the wait. It's not a large space, but I'm sure it'll feelperfect once their outdoor seating is ready. Make sure you extend them grace as they've just opened, but I'm sure you'll enjoyyour visit. I definitely did! Read more
Thanks 1865 Brewing Company for such a wonderful family Fall-time fun event... We we're amazed at the many memorabilia photo... displays of rich historical African American history of motivational speakers, students also educators residing at the HamptonUniversity, and the Historical Fort Monroe and much more. Not to mention the "Outdorsey" venue games and beautiful Patio bistro& lounge seating experience. Great for all special occasion event parties as well!
