In retrospect I should have asked questions since I had never been there before. The food was good but it wasn't what I was... expecting. I ordered Fried chicken. I was expecting what you would get anywhere else. I received 2 boneless chicken breasts. Idon't particularly like chicken breasts boneless or not. Came to Watauga lake for the week. Great area and the lake was so nice. Shirley?s is a gem of a restaurant! Fresh made family... style food?fast and attentive service! (Get there early though) Best Cou try Fried steak I?ve ever had and all the rest of theitems are great as well?oh yea?real Banana pudding (southerners know what I?m talking about) Shirley?s will be a regular stopfor us on future trips to the lake. I'm in the area vacationing, from Maine. We wanted the authentic, down home cooking and experience. I loved the set up of the... menu.pick your main dish and sides and dessert. i just did the plate meal, but the all you can eat would be great if you camesuper hungry. Caleb was our server, super attentive and warm. And we had others checking in on us as well, including Shirley!Would definitely recommend anyone in the area to stop in. A friend and I were traveling through and discovered Shirley's was open and serving breakfast. We were greeted promptly upon... entering the restaurant, by a friendly associate. Our order was taken in a timely manner and we were able to customize ourbreakfast. Our breakfast arrived shortly, fresh and exactly as ordered. Our waitress was attentive and professional seeing thatwe had everything we needed. We explored the gift shop before leaving and continuing our journey. Absolutely the best resurant in carter county! The food is amazing and tye staff was wonderful too. This is buffet style eating,... you pick what you want and they continue to bring it out until you are full. For this reason its not the cheapest but it is wellworth it if you can even get a table. Check it out, its well worth your time and money!! Read more
