We considered 7 different local BBQ caterers for our wedding and Hempen Hill BBQ was the only one that met all our needs: 1.... Great food (we?re still getting rave reviews from guests calling it the best food they?ve ever had at a wedding, months later);2. Very affordable pricing for our 95 guest list; 3. An experienced catering branch with excellent customer service (Joshclearly knew what he was doing and was always pleasant, thorough, and responsive to email); 4. Awesome vegetarian options. Wehad many vegetarians attending and Hempen Hill was the only caterer able to accommodate that requirement?the Mac and cheese,veggies, baked beans, potato salad, and other sides we chose were all naturally vegetarian (no hidden bacon bits, etc) so wedidn?t need to have an entirely separate menu and the BBQ tofu was well reviewed by our guests. Absolutely the best smoked food (not just meat) around. Period. I drive 20 min. to come here and I'm not alone.... Competition/award winning, if you care about such things. Not a chain. Family owned/operated and it shows in the care they putinto being part of the community. Full bar with a rotating set of taps, good variety. Casual dress/environment, all are welcomeand treated as such. Live music on the right night. Daily specials repeat each week. Price is relative, depending on youreating/drinking habits. Everything is quality, yet reasonably priced. I would like bigger sides, but I eat more than most. Crab cakes we're heavy on the spices. Sides were great, 1/2 bird great. Server, not so great: no "hello, I'm so and so, I'll be... your server",,,,, had her hands on her hips when approaching and talking to us, like she didn't want to even do this job, nosmiles or just plain happy to serve us. We tipped her anyway hoping to give her cause to smile,,, who knows,,,, we probablywon't return. Read more
