We ate at the Prairie Canary in Grinnell, IA today. Wow! Great service, wonderful ambiance for a date (I was there with my... wife), and oh my gosh, the food!!! I had the Canary Salad and the Grilled Cheese with Jam. The Canary Salad should have justbeen a run of the mill side salad, but it came lightly dressed with an apricot-dill dressing that was an amazing compliment tothe fresh greens. I like my salads in general, but this was a standout. The Grilled Cheese with Jam had a mix of cheeses, plushomemade strawberry-rhubarb jam, plus some kind of spiced or candied pecans, all on French bread. It was also amazing. Be sureto ask about dessert - I couldn't find any on the menu but they did have a variety of desserts, including a very tasty berryshortcake topped with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. Yum!!! Service was subpar. Food was mediocre at best. The special was a smothered sirloin with caramelized onion and a local blue... cheese sauce with broccolini and corn on the cob. The best part was the corn on the cob. Ordered our steaks Medium Rare theycame well done. After the steaks were served we didn't see our waitress for about an hour to point out how over cooked thesteaks were. The broccolini was gross and way over cooked. A delightful inventive menu with fresh farm to table specials as well as traditional favorites. Their advertised use of the... sous vide method cooking a large Iowa pork chop was a hit. This is the fancy restaurant in Grinnell. The staff is amazing, nice and helpful. The food is always good. It is a good place to... find something you've not had before. You can also always have one of their delicious hamburgers. The bar service has greatlyimproved. Not usually to busy. If they are running a popular special like brunch be prepared for a bit of a wait. Read more

Amazing dinner and cocktails in a cool modern setting with excellent service! Really enjoyed the Aviation and Basil Drop... cocktails. Our two appetizers, Brussels and Spinach Artichoke dip were wonderful and the entrees and dessert were great. Highlyrecommend! Read more
