We came here 3 times during a 1 week trip. Everything was delicious but our favorites were the birria tacos, taquitos, nachos... and fried plantains. Califa?s is a family-owned and operated business. My wife and I have eaten birria tacos all over Greenville and we finally found our home. John that works the counter is really... awesome and was great to chat with and hear how Califas started. We ordered 6 tacos which didn't think our kids would like andthey ended up eating 4 1/2 of them. We ordered another 6 and enjoyed our dinner very much! The meat was so tender that it justfell apart in your mouth and the birria dip was phenomenal. Seasoned to perfection we will definitely be making this place aregular stop to get our birria fix. Everything I?ve had here is really tasty. This time I got the L.A.X. Dog and Traffic Jam Smothered Fries. The dog was good, but... the fries were a standout. Can definitely feed two. Read more
Ordered takeout. Everything was okay. But the best thing to me were the Traffic Jam Smothered Fries! I?d go back just for those... alone! They were so delicious, fully loaded & flavorful! Everything I love on carne asada tacos, on top of fries! The birriatacos weren?t that great. The meat in the tacos was very chewy and not tender at all. The consommé had an overwhelming taste ofcinnamon or allspice and lacking a lot of flavor that a birria consommé really has. They loaded churros were delicious as well,nothing really wrong in that area. 7/10 recommend. Read more
Below expectations. I really appreciate what they are going for and I like their California twist on tacos and other handhelds.... Unfortunately they have California prices too. In general I think you?re paying too much for what you get compared to some othergreat local places. I think lowering the prices or upping the portions would go a long way here. Read more
Great family owned restaurant with bold flavors and HUGE portion sizes. The Birria tacos were good but I doctored the consume... with lime juice, onion, and cilantro. These toppings are on their salsa bar which is my only complaint. I wish we had known weneeded to purchase chips in order to try the salsa bar. John the owner is such a cool dude, and just the best guy. Seriously cares about his food and his business and treats his... customers well. The birria nachos and birria tacos are so good and super filling definitely worth the price. Gotta support localbusiness this definitely the place to do it. You will love it. Read more
