The mobile ordering needs a major overhaul. I had a very frustrating experience at Starbucks this morning. I don't typically... go there on my way to work, but stopped in to get a drink for a coworker. Seeing there was only one person in line, I decided Ihad plenty of time. After ordering my drink, I waited and waited as the barista made TWELVE other drinks that were for mobileorders. It feels like Starbucks devalues the customer that is in front of them when they put mobile orders as a priority. Irealize they make the drinks in the order in which they are, but when they are just piling up on a shelf for people who aren'teven there yet to get their drinks, it's extremely frustrating. I was late for work because of this, which leads me to the realissue here. If people want to order online ahead of time, I get it. My biggest frustration is that I had no way of knowing howlong the drink line (and subsequent wait) would be. Had I seen twelve people in line, I would have known I didn't have enoughtime to stop, and would have gone straight to work. Since I could only see one person in line, I had no way of assessing theamount of time I'd be waiting (which was almost 20 minutes, by the way). Starbucks really needs to rethink their mobileordering operations. I'm not saying they should stop offering the service, but perhaps hire an additional barista who onlymakes mobile orders while another barista focuses exclusively on in-store customers. Or, perhaps display the number of drinksthat are in the queue at any given moment. This could be synced to the POS software so it doesn't require any additional workfrom employees. Unfortunately both of these solutions would cost Starbucks money, either by investing in more employees ortechnology, not to mention the number of customers who would decide not to order their drink if they actually knew how long thewait would be. Either way, I'll be avoiding Starbucks until they figure this out. Read more
