The fish and chips special was a joke. Overly cooked, deep-fried cod was tough and thin as shoe leather. The chips were the... shoestring French fries shown in the various pics by others. The burgers are on thick and dense buns which is way too muchbread. Overall the place was packed but pleasant. The food, not nearly so much. Read more
Overall, we weren't that impressed, sadly. We stopped in for lunch on a Friday after hearing that the restaurant was being... featured on America's Best Restaurants. Upon entering, the place was empty and there were five tables that needed to becleared/cleaned still. Two employees were sitting at a table chatting, which we had to kind of interrupt to get seated. The foodwas okay. The crab rangoon was different, very oniony, and instead of the breading being light and crispy it was thick andchewy. The breading on the kid's chicken nuggets was also thick, very crunchy, and had been cooked too long because it wasslightly burnt looking. The service was okay; we felt like our waitress didn't really want to be there that day and only did thebare minimum. Would liked to have tried it again at another point to see maybe it was a very off day, as most other reviewersseemed to have had a better experience than us, but we live pretty far away. Read more
The food was edible. Walleye was good, not seasoned with anything interesting. The tarter sauce was as if out of a can. The... steak was good. The chimichurri was awful. It was all salt that had a mushy beat-up green herb texture. It was not fresh andadded nothing to the steak. Scraped it off. The cocktails were good, but expensive. The Caesar salad was not. It was a saladserved with a side of Caesar dressing. Don?t call things something they are not. And salads in tin pie plates? kitschy. Crabrangoons [sic] should have a light papery-thin wrapper, not thick and chewy. Several things antithetical to a good diningexperience: salads came unapologetically before the appetizer; a young woman came to the table four times asking if she couldclear plates before we were finished eating, and a ketchup bottle on the table is just tacky. If you?re expecting a couple tospend $80+ on dinner, use ramekins. This would have gotten two stars but for one thing: The hostess and the server were AWESOME!Great personalities and good at their jobs. Read more
Caught up with an old friend here recently. JW's was another one of our hangouts back a couple decades ago. Nothing much has... changed - menu is pretty much the same, the dining room & bar were both packed early on a Friday evening. Good, reliableAmerican fare. Free parking available in a lot behind the building. If you sign up for text notification on the wait list, you'll get a link where you can view the wait list, number in each party, and estimated wait time. That was nice, and fairlyaccurate for us. If you're looking for a decent, mid-priced dinner and don't need to be right on the waterfront, this is a goodchoice. Five stars for a mid-range experience in a reasonable price range. Read more
