My husband and I were vacationing in the area and just happened to pass by this great bakery! We had a fresh loaf of semolina... bread and huge lobster tail pastries! WOW! They were fantastic! We have had the ones from Buddy on Cake Boss and these blow hisaway! Way more filling and a lot less money! The bread was so fresh, hard to decide which loaves to buy! Fresh bread. OK turkey, undercooked bacon. Creamy mayo, lettuce was just alright. Onions instead of tomatoes was the right... choice. Being a bakery I would hope they would have more options for bread for sandwiches. The turkey could have been a betterquality but it wasn't bad. Service was fast and portions are large for a cape Ann sandwich. Friendly yet urgent staff. Waitoutside on the sidewalk and they will bring it out or order ahead. Nice spot. No tables. A Gloucester staple and the best sandwich shop anywhere. You can get more or less any regular sub or sandwich you could... elsewhere, but the real gems are those unique to Virgilio's. My all-time favorite is the St. Joseph sandwich, which I could eatforever, but the rest of the menu is not to be overlooked, especially the North Ender with balsamic vinegar or the Porky Joe foryou pulled pork fans. For you pastry fans, Virgilio's has a ton to choose from - more than I have had the chance to try. If youwant a guaranteed satisfying after-sandwich treat, grab a cannoli. Gloucester has a lot to choose from, but you shouldabsolutely not pass up the chance to grab something from Virgilio's when you have the chance. Read more
BEST cookies and pastries I have ever had. I stopped in here on my trip to Boston and up the coast from there and everything I... got was so fresh and baked to perfection. Also the staff is super super friendly and willing to answer your questions. There wasone thing I got from the cookie case (chocolate florentine) so I gave them a call and the woman on the phone was so friendly andwith my weird explanation she was able to tell me what delicious treat I got to take home with me.
