My wife and I were traveling to the east coast from the Midwest and we were really looking for an authentic small town Cafe with... good food. We certainly found it here and it was clear that this was a place that local folks came to eat on a regular basis. The food was outstanding, the service was quick, and the portions were large. The prices were moderate but a good value for whatyou got. I would highly recommend this place for anyone who wants a good breakfast or lunch. Check it out for good local food. Read more

My husband and I stopped in around 2 pm after driving up from Mystic. We went in and it looked like all the little cafes I... recall from ?the last century?. It was wonderful! They had fried smelts. This is not available in Savannah. (As I said we wereon a food vacation eating all the things that are not in Savannah.) At Charley?s I ordered my first clam roll (with bellies) ofour trip. Quick note: native New Englanders love our shellfish. It was amazing. We noted that Charlie?s had breakfast. We had 3breakfasts there. Offerings included seasonal items as well as standard breakfast fare. Portions were large, it all tastedgreat! Good place to go for clams and lobster roll. Bring the family. There?s something for everyone. Read more

What a gem. This local place is only open for breakfast and dinner. I ordered the lobster Benedict and it was very good. The... sauce was tasty and not too heavy. It also came with perfectly cooked hash browns. Coffee was pretty decent. Read more

Light, flaky, breaded mounds of deliciousness is how I would describe the Fisherman's Platter. The scallops, clams, shrimp and... haddock pieces were all perfectly fried, leaving them tender and juicy. We opted for the sweet potatoe fries. The LobsterBisque, Clam Chowder, and Haddock Chowder we equally outstanding, and the Lobster Roll was a fantastic treat, full of purelobster meat with no fillers. The service was top notch and the food came super quick. We'll definitely be stopping backtomorrow for breakfast to try the Pumpkin Pancakes. Read more

Eat where the locals eat, I say. If you love that small diner feel with amazing food and staff but on a budget, Charlie's Place... it is! You can't fo wrong with the lobster bisque soup and the apple pie is nice to take home for later. There isn't hardly muchof a wait but also the tables don't stay empty for long. Read more

I love the lobster roll and haddock chowder! The lobster roll has no fillers- just lobster with a bit of Mayo to hold it... together and salt and pepper. The haddock chowder is FULL of flaky fish with a little onion and potato and enough spices to justbring out the flavor. The broth is creamy, but not at all heavy. Not as thick as clam chowder traditionally, but perfect forfish chowder. The fried fish platters are generous and fresh. Read more

Charlie's Place in Gloucester is a good place for fried seafood. I have been there many times over the years. Today I had the... fried clams, and my wife had the fried scallops from the takeout menu. A 2-minute drive away is Good Harbor Beach where we satand ate our food. The menu has many choices for both breakfast and lunch with sandwiches and dinners. The seating area is small, especially during the pandemic. We have never been disappointed with any of our choices. Friendly, relaxed. and casual. Pricesare fair and the quantity is enough. Read more
