Ate here last night after finding waits of up to two hours at some of our favorite haunts. I grew up in the restaurant business... and make my living in food service. Staffing is an issue today, yet not an excuse for poor service. Had to “bus” our owntable, could have eaten more, or consumed more beverages, if the server actually came by our table. We tried to get theirattention, yet most times we were ignored. Decent food that was somewhat competitive, yet the experience was not. Also, 1small red wine at a bar and grill priced at $12? Really? When visiting the washroom, I figured out why service was so scarce. The Waitstaff was surfing their smart phones at the bar. Ugh. Fellow guests wanted to reflect an appropriate tip to send amessage. Having been on the service side, I couldn’t go there, yet it was as the first time I’ve tipped under 20% in ayear. The industry needs staff, so I usually feel it is appropriate to tip accordingly. Much of this boils down to training. I fault management, because the bodies were on site, just not directed to provide service. Final straw was getting someone tobring us a check. Seemed like an inconvenience. Eat here at your own risk. It was not a positive experience for us. In fact,we fantasized about heading to Pete’s market, buying off of the food bar, and eating on the sidewalk in the cold. It mighthave been more fun. I hope ownership sees this and makes the appropriate adjustments. We’ve had better at Ellyn’s, andcertainly elsewhere in Glen Ellyn. Read more
I went there for the first time with my family on Friday. Place was very loud and busy. They were definitely short staffed but... our waiter was great. What was disappointing was we ordered 2 large Miller lites but they were not filled up to the top. Thebartender had to wait for the foam to go down but she didn’t she served it that way. We didn’t want half filled drinks whenwe are paying for them so we took it back. Food was ok not great but we won’t be back. Definitely way to over priced for theamount of food that is given to you. I love this place. I’ve been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food and service are excellent! This may... be the reason that they get pretty busy. When I came is they were very busy. They put the Blackhawks on for me without makingthose football people upset. Then they checked in on me even though they didn’t have two seconds to breathe. The service was great and the food was above average
Food is pretty bland/average but fine… service is a bit spotty depending on who is tending bar or waiting tables. Not cheap... so food really should be better. They have numerous flatscreens but its not really a sports bar as they dont keep the volume onfor games but instead play top40 type stuff. Been here many times with friends because of the convenience for driving distancebut this last time was my last. Time to find a higher quality spot. Read more
What can I say about Ellyns that has not already been said. Great food! Great service! Awesome beer selection that is constantly... being updated. Super friendly, I bring my kids here all the time. and they enjoy the food. The waitstaff is on point. Bartenderis amazing! This is a hidden gem that everyone needs to try. Read more
I heard rave reviews of their Italian beef egg rolls so I stopped by to get them to go and OMG! THEY ARE AMAZING! A must try... here. The picture doesn't look like much, but the favor and crunchy texture are *chef's kiss* Will definitely be going back justfor them! Read more
Disappointed in food quality and service. Watched our dinner drinks sit on the bar during our meal while server was working on... sorting her checks. Did pour a nice Guinness though when it finally arrived. Read more
