This was my first time dining here. It was recommended by a friend and they had apparently moved to a bigger location than the... previous strip mall. It was very busy, which is usually a good sign. However, we waited about 20 minutes before our order wastaken. You do not need to look at a menu that long. By then, we were surviving on chips and salsa. The Chips and Salsa aregood. Unique flavors. They also have a hotter version of you ask for it. Meal wise, the portions are a bit small. 1/2 plate isrice and beans. The enchilada is ok, but is a 3 bite experience. The tamale was extremely good though, probably one of the bestI have had in the valley. Price for this dish after tip is around $20. The problem is the competition in this space. There area lot of really good Mexican options. Nothing was really wrong with the experience other than slow service, but I would not saythis is a place I would go out of my way for. Read more
The service was great to start with but after our order was taken it went down. The chips and salsa were good and the guacamole... was fresh made when ordered. The carne asada burrito needed something for an extra kick. The pico inside it was barelynoticeable and the green sauce on top was a tomatillo sauce with no chili flavor at all. The chicken fajitas were good butnothing special. The cheese burger was okay, my granddaughter got it because they were out of tamales. Rio Rico is a newley opened location of a family styled Mexican restaurant with over 15 years of serving the nearby Gilbert... area. The new facilities provide for a full bar, dining area, and two separately reserved party rooms for special events ordinners. This was my first visit to Rio Rico. The staff was very kind and sevice was fast, efficient and helpful. The priceswere also reasonable. The seating area is spacious and some booths are more secluded than others. My entrée tonight was thePollo Al Chipotle, which is a grilled chicken dish that is smoothered in a smooth, creamy aioli sauce filled with mushrooms, onions and spiced with a slow burn chipotle spice. It comes with rice and beans sides as well as a couple of flour or corntortillas. It was a nice dish, but not flavors that I enjoyed. My son ordered the chile verde plate, which I tried some bitesof. The green chile pork flavor was more of the light green flavor, nothing close to the hatch chile sharp flavor I enioy. Thepork was perfectly cooked, but again more of an average green chile than I like. That said, the chips and salsa were excellent,and one of my important points of a Mexican restaurant is that the chips and salsa must be excellent if provided. I will returnto Rio Rico because I didn't get a chance to try the red chili or sauce dishes. And the staff was genuinely excellent, so I amsure the I can find another entrée that I will be more to my liking. Read more

They had live music but it was TOO LOUD to have a conversation with friends at the table. They had the servers banging aroundsilverware in the dining area.
