While visiting Memphis from Chicago, my girlfriend who is a local to the Memphis area assured me Las Tortugas was the most... authentic Mexican place in the area and after trying it, I completely agree. The sandwiches are the closest to the authenticfresh flavor you would get from any place in Mexico City. The ingredients are evenly spread and distributed unlike most places.The elotes are well prepared. Nicely seasoned and cooked perfectly. The only reason I wouldn?t personally visit again in thenear future is the price. The sandwiches are really overpriced as is. The sandwich with queso fresco is the same price as theother sandwiches. Just taking out the protein. It should be a couple dollars less. It just doesn?t make sense for the customerto pay the same for way less. I really hope they?re paying their employees a very very fair wage. The employees are nice andeveryone was working hard to provide a quick and efficient service. Overall if you want really good food and don?t care aboutpaying $50+ for a meal for two, then Las Tortugas is the Mexican restaurant in Memphis. Read more
We've been visiting Memphis for three days and have already eaten here twice. The food is outstanding. They have a variety of... filling options, with taco or sandwich options for most. Here?s the deal. The food is excellent, but know that dinner for two ran us almost $50. The sandwiches are $17.99 each; one... lemonade costs over $6; plus, my dear husband gave them a tip.
