We are traveling and found the Smokehouse by chance. What a find! From the moment we walked in we were made to feel like family.... Back in February my wife and I were in town doing family genealogy research and we discovered the Galax Smokehouse - what an... amazing discovery!! The meats are wonderful and made even better by the AMAZING sauces. We bought a bottle to take home with usand are still enjoying it. I need to figure out how to get a few bottles shipped to me!! Wonderful pulled pork sandwich, great brisket, hush puppies and smoked mashed potatoes were so good. Our server was Anthony and... he was wonderful. Food came out fairly quick, considering it was completely packed. You pay at the front and prices were soreasonable. Will be back if I'm ever in Galax again. Read more

Was in town for the night and looking to try the local cuisine, so I ventured to the Galax Smokehouse because bbq sounded good... that evening and it was a little late in the evening. I asked the waitress what she recommended and she suggested the ribs.Soooo, ribs it was! A half a rack (6) of tender, meaty ribs and your choice of 4 bbq sauces. I ordered baked beans and a sidesalad with that as well. For dessert was a YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE DISAPPOINTED, VERY TASTY, AWARD WINNING BANANA PUDDING! ???? The baked beans had pork in them but lacked flavor as I would expect them to have, but the ribs were deliciously tender and thatis why I was there. Very good. I did order a cup of Brunswick stew to sample but apparently that was overlooked but it wasremoved from the bill. No problem. The service was prompt and polite. I would return here and I'd recommend the bbq here too! Read more
The Galax Smokehouse is a great spot along the main drag. I really liked the indoor decorations and historical images. I liked... the wall dedicated to veterans. I tried the ribs and brisket. The brisket came shredded and mostly, uniformly colored. The meatwas moist and tasted great. It's not covered up in sauce but a variety available. Must order to get the sauce low down though,lol ;) The ribs were not over seasoned and smoked thoroughly. You can tell they're not boiled first. Not "fall off the bone"style. I enjoyed the sides as much as the protein. The slaw was crisp and tangy. The mashed potatoes were the best though. Anearby patron ordered the fried potatoes (crisps/chips), they looked delicious too. My guess is that the brisket sandwich ishard to beat here. Can't say it's my favorite BBQ place but definitely a great spot and I'm sure it's someone's favorite. I'llbe back every chance I get just the same :) Read more
