Lunch special 3 roll combos are best deal around but sometimes they just rush through it. I've found some peices don't have... fish or missing the avocado.. not even distribution in the roll. Still.. I'd go there again. Read more

I’ve been to this restaurant in the past and really enjoyed it, but this last visit was a little underwhelming. Everything was... sort of bland and had a strong sesame seed oil flavor. Mahzu sushi serves Japanese food in a casual setting. We tried the hibachi and poke bowl for dinner. The hibachi was generous in... portion. The poke bowl was adequate. While the meal was for dinner, the dishes were fitting for lunch. Mahzu offers great valueif you are close by. Read more
Great place great food! Decent service. The only down fall is the communication barrier. Their English is sketchy at best. Still... if you want good quality Sushi, fresh with generous portions. This is the place. My family and I eat here at least once a month.The fish is always chilled and has a good level of fat , and nice texture. I am very picky. Especially when eating raw foods.The get my Sushi business every time. Several other places to eat Sushi, most of them over priced, over rated, with smallerportions. Truly my favorite sushi spot in the area. Coming from a port city; I was looking for a place to meet my standards of fish and... this place had the freshest ingredients amongst all I tried. The staff is attentive and so nice, very accommodating toingredient requests. Make sure to look at the day of the week, though! They are closed on a particular weekday. Very good sushi rolls and the fish tasted fresh. I appreciate that not many of the sushi rolls have cream cheese. Their yaki... udon was also cooked well with a nice balance of flavors, noodles still springy. Service was fast and friendly. Prices werereasonable for Gainesville. The best Japanese restaurant and sushi in Gainesville and even Alachua, Levy, Citrus & Marion county. Haven't found another one... in these areas that compare. I have never had a bad meal and I'm picky when it comes to sushi. Their staff is friendly and thedishes come out fast, yet with pride in their presentations and taste.
