Stopped by CJ's Northside Grill around 2pm last Friday for a bite to eat and a frappe. It was not busy. The young person taking... orders was initially not very welcoming but did become a bit more animated and friendly when I inquired about the freshness ofthe food, in particular the chicken sandwiches. The response was "everything is made to order", but did not really answer myquestion of the chicken being cooked fresh. Took a chance and ordered the Cajun chicken sandwich (9.99), it does not come withany extras. Also ordered a small fountain drink (2.59). My husband ordered a small order of fries (4.59) and a strawberryfrappe (7.99). The small fries were indeed small (see photo), and sadly, they tasted overpoweringly like onion rings. Thestrawberry frappe was disappointing also, it tasted like strawberry milk made with poor quality strawberry syrup. While I waswaiting for my sandwich, I went to the restroom to wash my hands. While the sink was fairly clean, the floor, walls and inparticular the door and doorknobs were extremely dirty. Everything looked like it had not been properly cleaned for sometime. The Cajun chicken sandwich was inedible. While the bun, peppers and onions seemed (mostly) fresh, the chicken was sodesiccated and tasteless I could not even swallow one bite and had to discreetly spit it out into a napkin. It was really,really bad. It seemed like it had been precooked days beforehand, stored in the refrigerator, and perhaps warmed up on the grillfor a minute or two before being "made to order". I brought the sandwich back up to the counter person and showed them how badthe chicken was and they apologized and offered to make me another one but I declined and requested a refund for the sandwich,which I was granted. We realize prices for everything have gone up, so this review was not necessarily about the high prices ofCJ's, but more about the subpar quality of the food. Read more
Meh?staff seems courteous enough, but it seems they are working on some prescribed food service zombie ?procedure? and going... through the motions more than being attentive or welcoming in any personal, friendly way. They don?t seem to care if you comeback much. Eat in Example: Takes order, comes back with food/coffee, comes back in under 2 minutes, anything else? Well I?m allset I guess 1:32 minutes later, (I?ve taken one bite and it was disappointing really). Gone. That?s all you get, no check in forre-fill. I had to walk over to the counter to pay bill after 15 minutes of no show after managing to eat about half a meal.Which, was a bit on the high side for 3 pancakes and two bacon strips at 20 bucks? Especially this quality. No re-fills andbeing abandoned added to the bill apparently. Most importantly, how was the food? Well ?breakfast all day? at CJ?s is more like?breakfast cooked this morning and left under a heat lamp all day? Pancakes were dry and firm, not fluffy and not the deliciouskind any pancake fan hopes for. Bacon was mostly burnt blackened, meager sized strips thrown unceremoniously next to thepan-pucks. Coffee was slightly burnt and tasted about 3-4 hours old, so basically, I wasn?t too heartbroken about no re-fillrequest. Overall: 2 stars, weak, barely halfway effort here in service and food prep. The top review of the woman threatening to call the police over some meat she wanted cooked more is ridiculous. How are you... going to type out that you're going to call the cops on them then get upset when the manager says you're intimidating the staff?Lmao. My co worker suggested I try CJs since I just wanted a salad. Drove over and ordered a steak tip salad for $13.00. When I got... back to the office my coworker asked to see my salad as she never had one from there. When I showed her, she said they couldnot spare you some salad, looks like you got beat. I went and got my salad from my coworker and brought it to my desk and openedit up to see nine very small pieces of steak that was still bleeding and barely any lettuce I immediately call the diner andspoke w my order taker. I made my complaint and asked if I could come back in to get better meat. I was told he would speak tohis manager. About 10 minutes later I went back to the diner. The experience became more horrific. I was told the manager viaphone said I could purchase new meat which they would cook to my liking. I ask for a replacement or a refund, I was told thatwas the solution. I then asked to meet w the manager, this is was told she was on the phone and she said I can take her numberand call her tomorrow. I was not impressed. I told the young man I would proceed to call the police if I did not get a refund.About 3 minutes later the gentleman came back apologize for not asking me how I would like my food cooked and took ownership,however his manager ask that I now talk to her on their restaurant phone. I asked him, the three times you called her, youexplained why I was here correct, he replied yes. So after I tell you to tell her I'm going to call the police, she now wants totalk, I thought she wasn't available until tomorrow I will wait for the police I said. Shortly thereafter, I seen a large 8passenger GMC truck barreling in the driveway. A lady jumped out and stormed into the diner. She immediately approached measking if I was waiting for a salad before I could answer she told me I wasn't getting a refund and to leave or she was callingthe police I was trespassing. I've come to update my 5 star review, I wish I could give them negative stars now. This place use to be great for quick comfort... food, now everything is over cooked and tastes horrible! Stake and cheese is inedible rubber stake with a piece of meltedplastic of an excuse for cheese. Cheeseburgers came on burnt buns I mean the tops burtn! Literally switched the buns at home tobe able to eat it. This is the 3rs horrible experience in a row and I'll never be back! Read more
