Thanks to our Uber driver who was a former chef that suggested having dinner at this fabulous little restaurant! The staff are... all very sweet and knowledgeable and great suggestions/accommodations for gluten-free needs. We had the kale salad and beetsalad-amazing! Shared the mussels and they had gf bread for me! We had the duck which my husband loved but the gnocchi was notthe typical tender kind and I had the trout which was out of this world! We then shared the churros and banana ice cream!!!Obviously we rolled out of there…thank you for a great first experience in downtown Flagstaff! ???? Read more

I was part of a group of five. Everyone raved about the food and the creative drinks. I had the Sweet Jane (2 actually) which is... a great NA option. All of us had one selection from the 3 parts of the menu, small plates, appetizers and entrees. I had thebaked garlic (excellent), the mussels (wonderful sauce and toasted bread), followed by the best sorbet I have ever had, then theduck breast (amazing). The service was impeccable and the manager came over at least 3 times to make sure we were enjoying ourevening. I would rate the food and service as top 5 of any restaurant I have ever been. The next time I am in Flagstaff,Tinderbox Kitchen is first on my list! Read more

I've been a fan of Tinderbox for over a decade, or as the staff tells it, an earlier spiritual successor to what they now call... "Tinderbox 3.0". It's always been a solid high-end choice for Flagstaff, but we ended up there for our anniversary dinner thispast weekend and reader, they knocked it out of the park. My wife and I eat out at a lot of nice restaurants. We're fortunateto enjoy several $100+ per person experiences in a given year. And there's something interesting in this price range: greatrestaurants know how to deliver a high-end experience at this price point, but sometimes fall into tropes or traps of familiarrestraint. They pull their punches. They fall back on standards. They can execute these standards brilliantly at times, but theystill leave something to be desired, especially as it pertains to "awe". The $100 pp tasting menu we had at Tinderbox insteadpushed itself at every point. It was a _triumph_. It surprised. It delighted. It punched far above its weight. It was pitchperfect. I'll start with the plum salad. It frankly didn't sound like my personal taste, and when it arrived, I found myselfexpecting it to be another dry, boring salad. Instead, it had this melded together blend of textures, bound by a reduced eggyolk mixture that made it work on every level. Then came, perhaps, the star of the show: the nori dumplings. This dish wasother-worldly. It featured three perfectly al dente dumplings, filled with a carrot ginger mix that, while very ginger-forward,was perfectly balanced with a miso glaze. And as if that weren't enough, there were these delightful curlicues of lightly friedcarrot. The texture and flavor these provided brought this dish to a whole new level. It had the rare experience of introducingme to a presentation I hadn't tried before, and in a way that felt like a natural addition rather than superfluous. The troutwas seared perfectly, flavorful and rich, though the dumplings were a tough act to follow. And the fin Read more

Absolutely amazing find in Flagstaff. We had the chef's 5-course meal along with the wine pairing. It was one of the best... culinary experiences I've had. The food was phenomenal. The wine was perfectly paired. The service was at a level aboveimpeccable. Charlie was our server and he was beyond professional, timely, courteous, and really made our experience a forevermemory. Highly recommend and we will absolutely return. Read more

Date night! I probably screwed up by making dinner reservations when we just wanted cocktails and appetizers. Not sure how the... bar seating works. It was full when we arrived. Wait staff was super attentive, food and drinks were great. I really enjoyed the“Down the Hatch” cocktail. Spice was so subtle it was very refreshing. Try it if you are in town! Read more

The service was excellent and the dinner was incredible! The Brie plate and the foie gras was amazing, and the lobster entree... was the best dinner I’ve had in a long time. My boyfriend had the venison and said it was amazing! They only thing wewouldn’t recommend is the duck fat fritters, they were just OK (it was more of a glorified hush puppy). Other than that, thisplace is amazing for a date night, or just to spoil yourself. 10/10 would recommend! Read more

Finally had the pleasure of dining here—after leaving Flagstaff over a decade ago, we found ourselves back in town looking for... a romantic dinner spot. We remembered Tinderbox, and I'm super glad we chose this place. The cocktails were on point, even ifthe menu is a bit daunting (thankfully, the waitstaff are great translators). We ordered a couple shared plates that were yummy, but the star of the evening was the half crispy duck. Every bite was packed with flavor, cooked perfectly, and presentedbeautifully. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for fine dining in Flagstaff. Read more
