A little hidden gem on Flagler Beach please do not miss the Island Grill when you are dining at Flagler Beach. I had the mahi... special with a wasabi aioli sauce and the shrimp and scallops with rice and vegetables. The bartender is also amazing. Today we went to the Island Grille restaurant for a birthday lunch and were totally disrespected and disappointed! I ordered the... Wasabi Salmon and requested that it be cooked medium. The meal arrived and it was the the 1/8 inch end portion and was soovercooked and dry that it was not acceptable. In that I am reluctant to write negative reviews and understand that it is farbetter to advise the waitress and cook of any problems, I waited for the waitress to come by and to check about our food. Therestaurant did not have more than 3 other tables active. I had to finally flag down a different waitress/bartender and explainthat the salmon was way overcooked and dry. She asked if I wanted to redo the salmon and I agreed. She returned a few minuteslater with a new portion and left. This salmon was served raw and cold on the inside. I guess the chef was going to show me!Never did she or the other waitress come back and ask if it was now acceptable. When she finally brought the bill, I explainedand showed her the raw salmon and she said, "Well you told me that you wanted it undercooked and that's what I told the cook.The first time is how you prepare the salmon." I never asked that it be undercooked, i.e., raw and cold in the middle but rathermedium and not overcooked and dry. I told her that there is a happy medium between overcooked and raw in that I cook salmon athome on the grill all the time! No apologizes were ever offered nor any discount offered nor requested. The waitress is reallynot to blame but NO cook or chef, as they claim to be at the Island Grille, would serve the salmon still cold and raw unlessthey wanted to make a statement to the customer that they know best! I am posting pictures of the first salmon and then of thesecond attempt. Totally unacceptable! We will never be back! Read more
Outstanding service and the food was fantastic. Had the short ribs and Gorgonzola chicken pasta. Both were memorable meals. All... fresh and made from scratch. The short ribs were the best I?ve had. Always a great option for lunch with the beautiful views and the delicious menu. This time we did the special- grilled shrimp... with a cheesy potato cake as an appetizer and a fresh grilled swordfish for entree. The creme brulee with berries for dessert. This restaurant is situated in the Topaz Hotel but I?m told it is a completely separate business. It is somewhat quirky as some... of the rooms feel as though you are in a museum, but that just adds to the charm. The food was just great, there were 4 of usand we all had something different, but all 4 of us said it was one of the best meals we had enjoyed in quite some time. Theserver was attentive, prompt and polite. It was raining when we got there and we were greeted by a man who did not look like atypical host, he was a little off and seemed to complicate things somewhat. There were plenty of tables but he wasn?t sure hecould seat us? When I asked a very polite question how long the wait time was, as I would say it was an 80% empty room he lookedat me and walked away. So I asked if we could wait at the bar when he came back he said it was full. But it wasn?t! This was theonly downside, when he did come back the second he lead us to a table rather abruptly to what was the main room with maybe only3 other occupied tables. Very strange. We didn?t see him again so it did not spoil our enjoyment. But first impressions count,not sure he should be the one greeting people. Im not sure if they have a few rooms to rent as people, I assume guests appearedto be walking through the dining room to get to bedrooms.
