Reviews for Acropolis Restaurant and Catering in Evansville, IN
I think if most of your menu is not Greek, you maybe shouldn't call it a Greek restaurant. I had the gyro with fries and it was... ok. The fries were pretty good. Quick service and pretty cheap. I probably wouldn't go back. Read more
Don't be confused by the picture on Google of this place, it doesn't look like that (anymore?) But that is the correct address.... The food is very good, the staff was very nice. Probably one of the best gyros we've ever had, and I could just eat theirtatziki with a spoon by itself. Read more
Honestly, I don't complain much about the food ever. Because, I enjoy food very much. But all honesty the Hummus was better... then the food cooked at their river side location.. The dish across from me in this picture was so much oil it could've soakeda entire slice of bread and still had enough for half a bowl of oil. My burger tasted like it was frozen instead of freshlypatted.. honestly the servers personality towards her customers was better then the food. Next time I wanna eat here I'll justgo to Wendy's for a burger least I know they don't freeze them. Read more
Food and service was OK. Disappointed that we were the only ones there at dinnertime. Honestly don't care for the new location... down by the river in the Hadi Shriners building. A/C units were loud and they distract from the ambiance/atmosphere of thedining room. Smaller menu than the old location, but still managed to be out of some items too. Noticed several "American/local"dishes on the menu, which was also disappointing since this is supposed to be a Greek restaurant. Don't know what's going on butthis isn't the Acropolis I remember. My wife and I visited the Acropolis Restaurant to have a rather nice brunch whilst running around Evansville. Upon arrival, the... building looked to be in good repair and the parking lot around it was very clean and not crowded. Once we entered, I gave thehost a warm, mask muffled, "Yassas!" (???? ???! - Greek for 'Hello' - formally). Unfortunately, the gentleman was slightly lostto say the least. You could say that I was speaking Greek to him! (insert rim shot!) The restaurant was slightly dim, but I feltthat it added to the Mediterranean feel with all of the relics, paintings, sculptures, and décor. Not to mention the tiledesigns that they had on the floors and walls, simply beautiful! There is of course, fantastic traditional and modern Greekmusic playing over the restaurant speakers. It wasn't too loud to be disruptive and it wasn't too quiet to not be pleasantlynoticed either. We were seated almost immediately with no waiting. Our table was clean and disinfected via covid-19 regulationsand was next to a window which was also clean, sill included. The flooring was well swept, not sticky, and had no mop residue. The restroom (men's) was a little less lighted than I would prefer, smelled OK, not great, but you could tell that it was arestroom. The floors appeared clean and free of debris, and there was plenty of soap and paper towels. The waiter was veryattentive, but not overbearing. We had a deluge of separate dishes that seemed to have arrived from Greece itself! The flavorswere astounding; aromas engulfed you senses; and the visual presentation caused anticipatory salivation! We enjoyed everythingfrom the gyros (yee-ro, the 'g' is not pronounced in Greek) platter to the smothered lamb shanks, and as always, a deliciousshot of Ouzo to top it off! If you don't like licorice (black ropes), you won't like this liquor! The have plenty of otherspirits and wines to compliment your meal. The PQA for this meal was great. We received a generous portion of foo Read more
This place has a big menu, but I honestly do not know how anything taste other than the Gyro platter, it is unbelievable. They... do a little crispy thing around the edges of the gyro meat to make it really good. Comes with a large side I always go fries mywife likes to get the beets. And they’re good I don’t know if they’re fries good, but they’re good. And then you alwayshave to get the baklava when it’s over. Go ahead and splurge and get two servings, you don’t wanna share it once it getsgoing. Read more
Everything was excellent. I don't know how many times I've driven past this place thinking it was more expensive than it is. ... The lunch prices very were reasonable, and the food was amazing. A particular picky eater in our group actually liked thedolmades (grape leaves), and he never likes those unless they're his grandmother's authentic recipe. Read more
Had an adult birthday gathering and we couldn't have been more pleased. The food was wonderful. The decor is lovely and there is... plenty of room so you're not crowded up. We had such a great waitress! Her name is Dannie Sanders and she has a sweet demeanorand was very attentive to our needs. We will come back and ask for Dannie to wait on us again. Read more
