Reviews for The Firebird Cafe in Essex Junction, VT
Great food and coffee. We ordered two tofu burritos, home fries and coffee which were excellent. We waited about 10-12 minutes... and enjoyed sitting inside. It's a smaller restaurant but it also has a nice outside patio seating area that would be ideal whenit's nice outside. The service was good and it was well worth the relatively low cost (12 bucks a person). My only complaint isthat the home fries had good seasoning and flavors but could have been slightly crisper - they were basically large thick cubesof potato that could have been smaller/thinner to help crispness. We will definitely stop by here again! Read more
Food was excellent! Everything was made to order and tasted fresh. Customer service was helpful and professional. Extensive menu... with lots of great options. My only recommendation would be to stop using paper plates and plastic cutlery. It's difficult toeat on paper plates and is also very wasteful. Invest in a dishwasher please. Otherwise, would definitely recommend and will eathere again in the future. Read more
Didn't love it, certainly didn't hate it. All the items have a definite southwestern flair. The service was friendly and the... food got served fairly quickly. It's not our favorite place to eat, but only because we don't particularly care for the menustyle. The food and the presentation is five star. Read more
I think I have probably been to Firebird for the last time today. I live very close by, and it's a convenient spot so I have... gotten food there more than a dozen times since I moved to the area a few years ago. I have mainly had their breakfast food, andit has always been very tasty. Though, it's a 50/50 chance that if you get pancakes, you will get several bites where the batterwasn't mixed properly and you'll get a mouthful of bitter baking soda. My main complaint is about the wait times never beingreported accurately over the phone. I do not mind waiting, and I understand that places are understaffed and busy on theweekends. Long waits happen at restaurants, and that's OK. But if they are that busy, they need to be honest about it when youcall to place an order. This has happened every time I've ordered on the weekend: they tell me half hour wait, I show up after30-40 minutes, and then wait ANOTHER half an hour or more before the food is ready. They seem to heavily prioritize the peoplewho come in to sit down, and let the takeout customers wait more than 2X the quoted time. After waiting that long for a basicorder of pancakes and a breakfast sandwich, the sandwich wasn't even what we ordered. Next time I get the craving for pancakes,I'll just make them myself or go to McDonald's. Read more
I'm just going to say I'm from south of Mexico, and the chorizo taste just like home. I've been 4 years in the country and this... is the first time I found something really good. Who ever is the owner, you did an amazing job, we really enjoy our breakfastand everything was very tasty. Thank you! Read more
Good food and nice staff. Food came out well and the eggs Benedict was good for my first time having them. Definitely a good... visit and would come back again. Read more
The good.. cute place, great location with outdoor seating.. The not so good and this just needs to be said. The food here was... sub par. I mean really not good at all. We ordered Fish Tacos, Heurvos Rancheros, and a Chorizo Omlette. Everything camedrenched in an awful sour, brown sauce. I've had lots of Mexican food, lived in San Diego, been to Mexico and their signaturesauce was hard-core vinegar sour tasting... The black beans were right out of a can hard and unseasoned. The fish was fishy, dryand blackened. The chorizo was sour and almost rancid smelling. I really don't like writing negative reviews but I feel I needto warn folks to avoid potential disappointment. I'm sorry but sometimes things just need to be said. Hopefully they can improvefrom this and put "more love" in their food. Read more
I really don't see what the big deal is. The food's okay. Service is iffy. Atmosphere is industrial and impersonal.
