I love Art's Seaford salad and chicken salad is awesome tooo. The home(Art's bakery)made sweet rolls are out of this world. I ... love to be there when the guys are rolling out the pie crusts. Art's Bakery is what I would consider a "Hidden Gem". I don't know how many people know about it outside of the Erie PA Area but... if indeed they aren't well known then it's a crime. My Family and I are from the Buffalo Area but we make the trip to Erie PA atleast once a year ( not withstanding any Pandemic's that crop up ) and when we do we always make it a point to stop byArt's. Everything is so good, the breads, the Pepperoni Balls, the Cookies, I wish we lived closer because there is so much wehaven't tried yet but it's tough to take that much stuff back home. My mom is famous for her pies, especially her rhubarb pies with meringue. But it was too tall an order to ask her to make 6 of... them for my niece's bridal shower, so when I Googled "rhubarb pies Erie" and Art's Bakery showed up, I was so excited! I calledand spoke with Gordon, the owner; he couldn't have been nicer. When I asked if it was possible to add meringue, he said he'donly done meringue on a couple of other types of pies but not rhubarb...however, he was up for the challenge and was happy totry it out for the first time for my order. My niece and everyone at her bridal shower were so excited to see (and devour!) thepies, which were as delicious as they were pretty, with mountains of fluffy meringue atop perfectly-sweetened, tender chunks ofrhubarb in a silky custard, with a light, flaky crust baked to perfection. What a win!! Thank you Gordon (and your friendlystaff, who helped us check out quickly even though they were very busy)! You and your bakers knocked this order over the fencesand I can't wait for an opportunity to come back and try some of the other delicious items in your bakery. This is my 3rd and final time trying Art's, honoring it because it was my Grandfather's favorite bakery. I've tried many of... their cookies, and recently their Apple Strudel for a late bday present to myself. And I'm so broken hearted to say that allwere dry, low on flavor, and the strudel specifically was hard! I couldn't even cut it with a fork. It's definitely not mytypical experience with strudel. I was going to cut up a few bites for my 1yo daughter for a treat and I'm glad I didn't,because she would have choked. I guess nostalgia isn't everything. I really did give them a good try. If you have not been to Art's Bakery you are missing out. Love their Bearclaws, Buckeyes, Pies and English Muffin Bread.
