I have been eating here (and its previously named iterations) for more than 20 years. It is my favorite place for... teriyaki. Their rice is so so so good. Sticky and slightly sweet. It is a great vehicle for the teriyaki sauce. And the chickenand steak are both cooked well, they aren't greasy or full of connective tissue. Now, the sauce. This sauce is to die for. Iwould buy it by the gallon, if they sold it that way. I moved from Encinitas to Santee almost 7 years ago, and I still drive upto eat, and buy sauce to go. They do sell bottles of sauce. It's sweet, but not too sweet. It doesn't have that excessivesaltiness that is common with most store bought teriyaki. The viscosity is perfect, so it can be used for dipping, or pour itonto foods directly, and you aren't going to end up with too little or too much. Was not expecting much from this place but after trying it for the first time...it just became my to-go place. The primos... working there gave me their recommendation and really came through. I was going to surf Brothers teriyaki and catering restaurant way back in the early 90s. I knew the brothers when they were... teenagers. And I have to say that I am extremely proud of them for producing excellent food, hospitality to customers, they gobeyond. The food is excellent! Delicious as usual. One of my go-to restaurants. The In-N-Out-like simplicity of the menu, the quality of the ingredients, the... generous portions, the reasonable prices -- everything about Surf Bros. is superb. It's super tasty, and you *feel good* eatingit. Their only problem is that they haven't opened more stores, and closed their University City location. Read more
