Reviews for Le Papagayo in Encinitas, CA
Great food and service! If I could recommend that on the outside patio nearest the street and before you seat somebody that you... clean the table because I found the table a bit gritty when I sat down and had to ask for it to be wiped. (I get it with thesand and the road...just a suggestion) The singer that was there the night of September 28th is good, but needs to level hertones and balance her voice; in my opinion. Our waiter provided great service but really needs to get over his shyness andengage with the customer. Question though; if I am not mistaken, there is a dedicated bike lane that they took from the road? If so, why did I have a couple of bicycles ride next to my table opposite of their (walked) dedicated lane? On an awesome note, the Short Rib Pasta was awesome and the braised short rib was spectacular!! Read more
“Go Big or Go Home” should be the theme of this establishment. The size of the restaurant, their extensive menu, and the... portions are definitely not an issue. They clearly have a different idea of what a “Tapas” size portion is then I do but Ilike their rendition better. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, TVs, and live music most days in the evening. Happy Hour onTuesdays is all day which is nice but it can get crowded. We started out with the Honey Spicy Shrimp and the Shanghai Baby Backribs. The shrimp was tempura style with a honey chili sauce on it. Very good but not over the top. The ribs were delicious. Falloff the bone with a sweet but savory soy based sauce on them. Would recommend a repeat on that one. Our main course was theSkillet Filet Stroganoff and the Fresh Halibut with blue Crab. Again both portions were large, the filet chunks were a littledry but the stroganoff sauce was good. The fish was cooked nicely but was under seasoned. For desert, we had the Buttercake withsweet cream ice cream and the Vegan Sorbet Trio. The butter-cake was out of this world - slightly crispy on the outside andmoist and tender on the inside. To die for. The sorbet was excellent as well with three very large scoops of Cabernetblackberry, mango, and coconut sorbet. NOTE: The service was good but almost too good if that sounds odd. We ordered ourappetizers and and were half-way finished them when our entrees arrived. (Literally had one drink). I thought it was just usbut noticed both tables next to me were having the same problem so either the kitchen or servers weren’t staging very well.Unless something changes, for future visits, I’d order appetizers and then when I finished, order the next course. Ishouldn’t have to do that but we did feel rushed only because they courses came out on top of each other. Really would givethis a 3.5 but a couple little tweaks and this could be a 4.0 to 4.5. This was my 3rd visit to the restaurant. We had a reservation at 730 pm and showed up at 530 pm hoping we could be seated early.... The restaurant was packed but they accommodated us which was great! I enjoyed the previous visits but our dinner last night wasmemorable thanks to our fabulous waitress Emma. She was friendly, had great energy and was knowledgeable of the menu. Sherecommended the scallops which were cooked to perfection. Hubby had the prime rib and devoured it in minutes. He was also a bigfan of the ribs and I enjoyed the mussels. The drinks were delicious as well. I will make it a point to come back more oftenthanks to the wonderful Ms. Emma and amazing food. Read more
One of the best breakfast I ever had in San Diego. We ordered shrimp and grits, papagayo skillet. Great flavor and portion!... There are big thick crispy bacons, and big chuck bell peppers in shrimp and grits! Great seasoning and perfectlycooked! Definitely coming back! Read more
Italian Mexican fusion restaurant with a costal beach vibe to it. Great food with lots of outdoor seating and they have live... music. Fun place to eat with a wide variety of options. The mussels were SO fresh, can’t wait to come back again to try them! Read more
I had the Roasted Hawaiian Kahlua Pork. It comes with a huge portion of pork, which isn’t a bad thing but it was almost too... much, a bit of rice and some delicious grilled pineapple. I may have eaten too much of the bottomless bread with pesto dipbefore my main meal got to me, but if you order that bread basket you will understand why. Do order the bread, even though itwill 100% ruin your meal after 3 orders of it. Great service here too. That bread was on our table in minutes. Read more
HANDS DOWN, THE BEST breakfast place in the area! Portion sizes are excellent! You'll definitely need a to-go box. The prices... are a little high but the quality of your breakfast definitely matches the price. Staff is super friendly and service was fast.We got the green Chile chilaquiles and scrambled eggs, the Papagayo skillet (3 sunny side eggs, avocado sauce, sausage ham andbacon with roasted potatoes) and the classic pancake stack with eggs and bacon.
