My fiancée found Back 40 on Google & we decided to give it a try. This place is definitely a hidden gem & a MUST if your in the... St Augustine area! Everything was absolutely wonderful. Our service was great, & the food was amazingly delicious. We had thesalsa, chips, & beer cheese appetizer & it was so delicious & freshly made that day, that we purchased extra to take home. This restaurant could easily get higher ratings from seniors like me. The staff is attentive and pleasant, the food is good, and... the general ambiance is nice. BUT old folks generally eat less than other adults, and among restaurant patrons we are morelikely to have a fixed income that's not as high as others. We like establishments that are tuned in. The thoughtful ones offera senior's selection with reduced portions and prices, some simply a flat discount. If not, most don't mind if we order fromthe kid's selections. NOT Back 40 A1A!!! Although you won't see it online, when you're given the menu at your table you'll seein LARGE LETTERS that if an adult orders from the kid's selection you'll be charged an additional $3. You won't be given morefood for that upcharge, and never mind that you might order an alcoholic beverage at prices we all know are usually inflatedmore than food prices. You're just being punished for being a wrinkly. Take a cue from your more caring competitors. Or,kindness doesn't even have to figure in - just be reasonable. Read more

Ordered take out since it was close to closing time. Fast, delicious and very satisfied with everything we ordered. The Conch... fritters were great! Maybe a different dipping sauce instead of Ranch would of made it even better. Jerk chicken was great andthe chocolate mouse cake was delicious as well. I would recommend this place;) Read more

Sometimes the food is great, sometimes it's awful. There's no consistency aside from the contemptuous attitude of a certain... server who has been there for way too long. I've been going here regularly for years and am under the strong impression that theowners are not that great to work for. Especially now that there is a sign on the door complaining about limited workforce...essentially blaming anybody but themselves for their poor service and unreliable quality. Plenty of restaurants here are doingjust fine. PAY your staff better and hire a REAL manager to run your business. Any time I see the owners there they are justslowing things down and getting in everybody's way. Wake up! Read more

Started as a matter of convenience as they were right across the street from our condo. However we were very pleasantly... surprised. The food is delicious, very fresh and flavorful. I ordered the shrimp quesadilla and it was excellent. We ended upsqueezing in another meal with them before we left we enjoyed it so much. It was quiet in the restaurant itself but you couldtell it was a local haunt compared to a tourist spot. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Really great food and worth a visit,absolutely. Visited this eatery/restaurant for a late lunch ???? and the setting was cozy, quaint and intimate. The server was very... attentive to our needs and provided excellent service. I had the Thai Chicken Salad which was tasty and filling. Huge portionswith very reasonable prices. Another must visit if you?re happen to be in the area. Read more

My wife Beckie and I found this spot a few months ago. We were tired of the same ole stuff around the beach and decided to... explore just a bit south and totally score9with this gem of a place!
