Reviews for Harbor House Inn in Elk, CA
Harbor house is truly such a special place. My boyfriend and I came for dinner and I can say this was the best night and dining... experience of my life! We haven?t been able to stop talking and thinking about our night dining here. Every single course tastedabsolutely amazing and you can tell how much care and detail goes into everything. The location is absolutely outstanding itmade me emotional I was worried my makeup would be messed up by the time we got to our table. Harbor house also has the bestservice I?ve ever received, everyone is so friendly, kind, and does everything they can to give you the perfect meal andexperience. Jaclyn went above and beyond the whole meal and at the very end she even walked us out to our car with an umbrellaso we wouldn?t get wet from the rain! Thank you Jaclyn, John, and the whole team, they made us feel so at home we didn?t wantthe meal to be over. We loved how all of the ingredients were local. It?s impossible to choose favorites, every course was ahuge hit. The duck was insanely good, we?ve always loved duck but we never knew it could be this amazing. The cod wasimpeccable. They have such a great drink menu which also has the best apple and grape juices we?ve ever had. I will never forgetthis meal, it stands out from every other Michelin meal i?ve ever had. I can?t wait for Harbor House to get it?s third Michelinstar. If you?re thinking about dining here just go and book your reservation you will not regret it. We?re already planning avisit back. It's hard to articulate the beauty and intention put into the harbor house. The historic building is in incredible condition,... preserved for our enjoyment. The rooms are unique and detailed as intentionally as one might expect from such an inn. However, the food is unmatched. The service is so focused that you may not even notice all the steps they take to make your experienceincredible. From the intention behind the placement of every single element, to the wait staff displaying their passion for whatthey're accomplishing, dining at Harbor House Inn is incredible. It's intentional. It's very much down to Earth and of thisEarth. At no point are you made to feel pretentious or flashy. It's so genuine you forget they've been awarded two Michelinstars, until you step back and look at everything you've just been served and how you've been served. Harbor House Inn is trulyworth a special journey. Read more
This is a magical, beautiful place. The food is amazing and ambiance peaceful. Loved the rooms and the grounds! That being said,... we were disappointed by the staff. We didn?t find them very welcoming, friendly or flexible, about several little things.Adrienne was the exception, very friendly and helpful. But in general, the staff weren?t very helpful and there was a lack offollow thru when we requested a few minor things. Not going to bother to describe specifics, but there were several instancesunfortunately. (Including never receiving the receipt/bill invoice for our stay). With the right staff, there?s the potentialfor this place to be perfect in every way. Considering our experience, we?d probably prefer to stay next time at the morefriendlier, Elk Cove Inn, next door, and come here for dinner. Read more
We stopped by for dinner and it was a truly extraordinary experience. It's fascinating what the chef can do with local... ingredients and we were impressed by the creativity in each dish. The wagyu beef was my favorite course, but every single coursewas fantastic! The service was incredible (shout out to Jacqueline for being professional, funny, informative, and attentivethroughout the entire three hour experience) and we were lucky enough to meet multiple chefs, including the owner! Theatmosphere is cozy, with abalone shells decorating the walls and historic pieces around the rooms. This is easily one of thebest tasting menus we've ever had and we can't wait to come back! Since receiving Michelin stars, Harbor House Inn?s charm and service has declined. The staff seems to be distressed by the... smallest request?management has changed over four times in the last year. The cottages are very clean and nicely decorated withspectacular views. The highlight of my stay was the breakfast, but for much friendlier service, similar views, and a morereasonable price tag, I wish I had stayed another night at Elk Inn next door. Read more
Overpriced for sure! At over $550 per night including tax, its kind of outrageous. Service from the front desk was cordial and... caring. The views are amazing. BUT, the room was small and the bathroom plumbing definitely needed attention. Very cramped, poorshower head and you bump your head on the soap holder when you try and put your head under the shower. The restaurant was closed(obviously not enough patrons on a Wednesday night) so its a 15-20 minute drive to the nearest food stop. Breakfast served inyour room in the morning was nice yet served in old chipped crockery. Need more attention to detail on that one. The plus'sinclude a fire pit to sit around to enjoy the view, a comfy bed and a historic feel Read more
It?s a week later, and we are still reeling from this amazing dinner. The food? Incredible. Words aren?t useful enough to... describe the flavors and amazing new things we tried. There wasn?t a bowl I didn?t wipe clean. We left stuffed, and happy. Theatmosphere was beautiful and the service was like a dance. The staff was so kind and friendly and passionate. Their ethos aroundsustainable practice is something we wish everyone would highly value and prioritize like the Harbour House does. We will beback, and we can?t wait for the next 10 courses of pure genius. Read more
Harbor house inn is hands down one of my favorite places in the world. Situated in the stark but very picturesque town of Elk... this inn was recently renovated. The building is probably over a 100 years old, once an old lumber house. Now it overlooks asecluded, craggy cove that alternates between foggy and breathtakingly clear. The cottages are absolutely lovely and havewonderful views. The inn hosts a two Michelin star restaurant that is sustainable and local to a degree I have never seen. Theyuse sea lettuce foraged from their private cove and grow many of their herbs. The breakfast is to die for. Stay overnight, enjoytheir dinner and then their breakfast. You will not be disappointed :) Read more
