Machupicchu, also called "Machupicchu De La Tia Meche" on Elizabeth Ave. is a Peruvian restaurant specializing in Northern... Peruvian dishes, such as stews and Andean dishes. In addition, they have typical Peruvian a la carte items such as jalea, ceviche, lomo saltado, pollo a la brasa, etc. They regularly post their specials on Facebook, and are also a steady contributorof pollo a la brasa to locals. I've visited Machupicchu a few times and have tried a number of their dishes, but I'veunfortunately never been overly impressed compared to other Peruvian restaurants in the area. On my first trip, I ordered thecombinado macchupicchu: a mix of ceviche, jalea (fried calamari), and fried rice. All in all, it was pretty good, but I've hadbetter iterations of each dish at different Peruvian restaurants. Respectively, my favorite ceviche is currently from King ofSubs, and jalea from either El Tiburon or Cebellini. I later returned to Machupicchu to try some of their daily specials andcreole-style Peruvian offerings. Their soups are very hearty, of big portion, and fresh, such as their sopa de trigo de carne, which is a chicken broth wheat soup with yucca, celery, potatoes, carrots, oregano and beef. I have also had their chupe(creamy fish soup) which was even better. Entrees I have tried here on special were: Puerco guisado con arveja partida: astewed pork and split pea dish, served with rice. Carapulcra, a chicken stew with a peanut sauce. Aji de gallina: shreddedchicken in a creamy cheese sauce with potatoes and rice. I'll admit that these dishes may be more of an acquired taste, as Ithoroughly enjoyed some of the sauces and the sides, but often times the sauce was a bit too earthy and harsh. Read more
