The beer is always great and the staff is always friendly. One of our favorite spots for live music and we love that our dog is... always welcome, too. The revamped patio in the back adds some additional shade and looks really great. It?s even better when afood truck is posted up in the back! Read more

Recess Brewing in Edwardsville is an attractive, comfortable place to enjoy craft beer. This establishment is a brewery and a... taproom. As they say on their website, they are not a brewpub. So, don't expect a restaurant. You can however order food fromany number of nearby restaurants for delivery in the taproom. They offer multiple taps of on-premise brewed beers. As theseasons change, so do a number of the taps. This makes perfect sense and is something that is practiced by many establishmentsthat serve craft beers. Recess is located on Edwardsville's main street. It is a short walk across the street to the WildeyTheater. The Wildey is a former movie house restored as a concert venue. This makes Recess Brewing an ideal stop prior tocatching a concert. The decor here is brick and wood. The place has a comfy "at home" vibe to it, yet you know folks get workdone here too. I found the service friendly and informative. I sat at the bar and was quickly greeted and served. Thebeer-tender was happy to talk about their beers and the brewery which made my visit even more enjoyable. I like learning aboutplaces and my questions were answered in a friendly manner. What is also a plus for Recess is that everyone can feel at homehere while enjoying their tasty beer selections. I saw a group of business people having a meeting around a table and not faraway were a couple that looked like they just left a Grateful Dead concert. Now let's get to the beers! In addition to havingtap brews, they also have a nice selection of bottles too. Plenty of variety here. Some recent tap selections were a dry-hopedpilsner called Ninian, Tantric Wheat, and Wabash Station ABA. In bottles were a blonde ale called A Cougar Near You, and YellowBuzz which is an Imperial Pale Ale. There were more, of course, I just named a few. Overall, Recess Brewing is a great place totry some interesting locally brewed beers. I'm looking forward to my next visit. Read more
Love this place. Awesome location and it's very cool inside, cozy and familiar. The beer selection is great - they have... something for everyone and had seasonal (pumpkin and cider) flavored options when I was there. The bartender was friendly andhelpful. They don't have a full kitchen but do offer small snack options. Worth a visit! Read more
Couldn?t stay. Sat at the bar for 5-10 minutes. Wasn?t acknowledged by the sole bartender who was scream-singing along with the... ridiculously loud country music to the seeming amusement of the two three people he was focused on at the bar. Been here a ton, usually enjoy the bar and the beers, but: a) you need to at least acknowledge the existence of the people sitting at your barwithin a couple minutes, even if you?re busy (there were ten total people in the place, so I wouldn?t call it busy). A hello, glad to see ya, I?ll be with you asap, is plenty; b) turn the music down a hair, particularly if you?re going to be playing themost over the top country music imaginable that isn?t going to appeal to everyone; and c) don?t yell/sing along with the entiresong while you?re pouring everyone?s drinks. This isn?t a karaoke bar. I don?t care that you know the words to this terriblesong. And maybe if you spend a little less time leaning into your nightclub act, you could fill a few more glasses a bit fasterand I wouldn?t be down the street giving someone else my money?. Read more
