Reviews for The Captain's Boil in Edmonton, AB
Hey, if you don't mind eating your meal out of a plastic bag(at least they double bagged it), on a table that's covered in heavy... packaging paper(watch out for the paper cuts), you get one pair of cheap clear plastic gloves (you better bring with you theones you've taken from the doctor's offices), using plastic cutlery (apparently silverware is a special request and we only gota fork), you get a very small pair of sharp pointy scissors to cut your meals shells open with(watch out for cutting through andstabbing yourself with something that's covered in their sauces), and no bibs to protect your clothes with( DEFINATELY, Not agood place for a first date or for getting dressed up for a night on the town). We ordered 2 lbs of snow crab and got bag ofmessy bag of goop, with a half of a corn cob piece and a small bowl of plain white rice. I mean, we could have had boiledpotatoes or fries. If you want other sides you are going to have to pay extra folks, nothing comes for free here!! We would noteat here again! You pay top dollar for your seafood, that's appears to have been steamed for what looks like hours. There yagot it folks!! Grab your HazMat suites and gloves and give it a chance, your up for a real caveman/woman experience here!!! Noclubs allowed or hair pulling allowed!!! Read more
Service was great. However I had the sizzling plate, with the fish. No idea what type of fish it was but everything else taste... amazing but the fish was the consistency of jello. I thought it was the way the texture was but no no my stomach told me I waswrong. Got sick on the way home, sad times. My kids had an amazing meal and enjoyed it very much. Sad my experience wasbad. I?ll have to take a chance and try again Read more
Well, we had a great experience here. It was a little bit pricy but what do you expect it's seafood. And we already expected... we'll be eating out of bags. If you're the type of person who doesn't want to get messy while eating, then this place is not foryou. There's a tendency sauces will splatter. We were a group of 6 and it was worth it. We even had a take out because the foodwas too much. The sauce from the lobster and king crab are amazing! The service was fast. And servers were very patient with ourrequests despite of being packed on Mother's day. I would really recommend this to anyone but if this restaurant want to caterto other customers' requests, (to gain more customers?) I would suggest serving it on big bowls rather than plastic bags. Andhave banana leaves to eat on? Meh ??????????? just a suggestion ???? Read more

First time coming in. They checked for vaccination status. They were very attentive, telling us they would be with us in a few... mins while we waited at the doors. The food itself was pretty ok. We bought the seafood platter B with a side of crawfish. Youchoose your meal, your two sides, spice flavouring and heat intensity. The staff were very good at their job, they explainedhow the menu works and even was nice enough to show us how to eat crawfish for our first time. The menu is on a QR code butthere's also a chalkboard with current prices for the more expensive stuff. The food wasn't particularly warm, but I think forthe purpose of eating by hand that's a good thing? You get a bib and gloves. Servers offer scissors for cutting the crawfishtoo. The rice was good. Well cooked. The yam fries did not feel greasy. The shrimp fingers as well were well cooked. Thepotatoes were soft enough to use a plastic spoon to eat. The broccoli was cooked well and didn't feel undercooked. The musseldish was a little gritty. Might be do to the sauce consistency. The clams were also just ok. I think maybe these would be bettersteaming hot. The crawfish, being out first try.. They are definately not for everyone. However this type of dish is great forgroups, as the time used to break them down is great for talking. The crawfish also came with 2 sides. Bathrooms were alsoquite clean. There were sanitizers at the front entrance as well. Read more
Gross. Shrimp is not cleaned. If you like eating poo Was told no menu, that it was online but they have no wifi or prices. they... gave no plates or baskets. Was given a glass of warm water to start. No ice. Better off going to a seafood restaurant. Wherethey clean the Shrimp or buy your own and do yourself. For $160. I now have to take home wash sauce off and clean then recookmyself. Looking to make people sick, watch out!! Read more
Great experience! I loved the concept of a southern-style boil. Food is served to you in plastic bags to separate the orders,... seafood is in the proper form one should eat it in (not peeled, but for us to peel) which locks in more flavor, and I liked thevariety of sauces, and heat levels. I don't like too much sauce on my seafood, so I just asked for less sauce and theyaccommodated me no problem! This made it a little less intense and coated which I preferred. Service was friendly, fast, andthorough in their explanation. Lobster was expensive, but what else would I expect during these times for seafood in Edmonton?Actually, in the end, it was really reasonable and the quality was better than expected. Far better than any other seafoodrestaurant I've tried in Edmonton. We were with some friends with kids who also loved the chicken fingers! They were excellent, and seemed hand made. I'd also recommend getting mussels and the cajun rice, too. Read more
