Great food. Terrible service. We got there and were sited right away but it took our server forever to come to our table, to get... us coffee, even to take our order. She totally forgot about us. She'd apologized every time she remembered we were there but theservice never improved. A family of four that arrived at the same time we did, was served, paid and left before she ask for ourorder. Another couple arrived about 30 min after we did l, ate and left when we were just getting our food. We spent 2 hrs inthere, for breakfast! It was our first time there, and probably our last for breakfast. Again, the food and coffee weredelicious but the poor service did take away from our experience. Read more

The waitress was nice. However seeing how there was hardly nobody in there our table of 3 waited for our food to arrive for... almost 30mins and it was room temperature when it finally did arrive. Had I been by myself I would have definitely complained. After tip I paid nearly $16 for cold eggs, cold bacon, cold and extremely overcooked hash browns and exceptionally burnt toast.Me and my coworkers will definitely not be returning to Caroline's!! Just left this restaurant after attempting to have breakfast with my husband. I ordered eggs Benedict and asked that they... please ensure the eggs are soft poached and requested American cheese on my hash browns. Our food came out and the eggs on theBenedict came hard poached-they may have just been called hard boiled and cheddar cheese was on hasbrowns. Ask the waitress theyremake it, by the time the remade order came out my husband was almost finished with his meal. 2nd attempt at eggs Benedict wasjust as bad except this time cutting into the egg showed it was raw whites inside... Very disappointed as we were lookingforward to having breakfast. I asked waitress to just take it back and remove from our bill. Waitress returned to our table andstated she talked with the Chef and Manager and it was removed from bill. The waitress was polite. Poor customer service thatthe Manager never stopped at table to apologize. Read more

Fantastic experience. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. White Bean Chili might have been the most delicious food I ever... had. Everything else was great as well, including the free dessert (if you stay at the hotel). Service is spot on with a greateye on detail, super friendly, and efficient. Cocktails are good, but a little more crafty upstairs at the Riverboat lounge (askfor Carl). Read more

This was a really nice place for a hotel restaurant. Excellent dirty martinis and strawberry mojitos. We were lead astray by the... salmon cakes, though, as the video for the restaurant pictured two, and we only got one...and it was $14. Granted it was a largesalmon cake, but still, that's a tad high for less than 4 ounces of salmon. The dinner rolls were not fresh and kind of hardand the attempt at making the butter presented as upscale was a big miss when we tasted the lavender sprinkled on top. Not sureif salted lavender is a thing? The saving grace was the paradise salad. It was enormous for $10, fed both of us plenty withsome to take back for lunch the next day. Not sure we'll be back, but our server was quite sweet and did an excellent job. Read more

Caroline?s was a pleasant surprise. Housed on the lower level of the prestigious Hotel Julien in downtown Dubuque, this... restaurant has a terrific dinner menu. I decided to have a light dinner and chose the restaurant?s signature White Bean ChickenChili and Paradise Salad. The chili was creamy with a subtle heat and outstanding flavor. I enjoyed the salad, which wascopiously sized and served with warm rolls and whipped butter. Truly a treat. Read more

Caroline's is a gem nestled in the lower level of the Hotel Julien. As a local, I am always trying to visit restaurants... seasonally as many of our local (non-chain) options change up their menus with the changing seasons. During the month of May,Caroline's is running a prime rib special. My husband order the special and cleared his plate. I suppose you could say thatmeans the special is worth it for the prime rib lovers. The special is moderately priced. I ordered the Paradise Salad withsalmon, a typical order for me. The salmon was cooked nicely. For an appetizer, we tried the Butternut Squash Flatbread. Much toour surprise, we enjoyed this. My husband wasn't a fan of the balsamic, but he also isn't a fan of the vinegar flavor itself. The squash is pureed nicely on the flatbread which is more representative of a 'cracker' thinness and texture. Easily sharablebetween 2-4 people. I enjoyed the atmosphere of Caroline's though it is more on the quiet end of dining options I frequent inthe area. If you are looking for a quiet, romantic environment to enjoy lunch or dinner, Caroline's would be one of the topthree restaurants I would recommend as a local. Read more
