Reviews for Aposto at the Scala House in Des Moines, IA
Great ambiance of an old, historic home. Delicious Italian food, with seasonal ingredients. Service was first class as well.
Went during restaurant week with high expectation and was quite disappointed. The appetizer was impressive but the main and the... cake weren't worth the price, we do feel what they're trying to show us (for example home made cavatelli) but the marinara andsalmon didn't taste anything different from what you could get elsewhere at a lower price. Our waitress was super nice though. Will consider visiting again to try their normal menu but won't have high expectation anymore. Read more
Wonderful atmosphere, fantastic food, great service. Excellent spot for a date night. I had a brazed lamb dish I don't think... I'll ever forget. Every course and cocktail I had was on point. I left feeling fully satisfied and I plan to return next time Ipass through town. Read more

We absolutely loved Aposto! The Scala House is lovely and we love the Sherman Hill area. Being in a historic home made the... entire evening feel cozy and the food was fantastic. My partner and I shared the charcuterie board, cavatappi (all house madepasta), goat cheese fritta, and lemon cake. We had plenty of leftovers to take home and really appreciated the great service.Their menu is seasonal so we can?t wait to go back when they change their menu for a new season! Read more
The food was absolutely amazing! The flavor and presentation is beyond fantastic!! The menu is limited so reviewing on the... website is encouraged so you won't be surprised. If you like bread, you need to order it, it's not offered during dinner and notlisted on the menu. If you dine Wednesday or Thursday night it is beautiful, relaxing and quiet. The decor and chandeliers aregorgeous! The wine list extensive. Weekends are a bit too loud and we were rushed through dinner...even told by our waitress wehad to hurry through dessert because people were waiting for our table. Moments later she actually said we needed to moveoutside or leave. I thought that was incredibly rude especially since we were there short of 80 minutes. I definitely willreturn during the week...scrumptious, local and a Des Moines Gem! Read more
Managed to score a last minute reservation at Aposto for our anniversary dinner. It was a beautiful night so we sat out on the... patio. Great ambiance both inside and outside. Our server was very attentive and knew a lot about our dishes and the wine. Shemade a few good recommendations too. For dinner, I had the mussels and the pizza fritta. The pizza fritta had a delicious comboof creamy goat cheese and savory garlic jam that was a real treat. The mussels were perfectly cooked and served in a delightfulwhite wine sauce. My boyfriend had the bone marrow pasta which is now one of my favorite pastas of all time. Very unique, as youscrape the bone marrow out and into the pasta, the caramelized shallots adding an unexpected bite that brings the whole dishtogether. I would recommend Aposto to anyone looking for a date night restaurant or to annoy one that is simply looking for agreat meal. Read more
