Was in Decatur for the week for business. Decided to try all of the local sushi restaurants and Sushi Sumo is by far the best,... ended up coming here twice. An excellent little Japanese bistro, tucked unobtrusively out of the way in a small strip mall, houses one of the best sushi and... Ramen spots I've had the pleasure of enjoying since the last time I visited Japan. They have foodie inspired fusion offeringslike the excellent take on jalapeño poppers (picture attached) as well as classics like gyoza, edamame, and tonkatsu Ramen. Ihad the aforementioned poppers, spicy miso Ramen, and their specialty "scream" roll. Each was unique and utterly enjoyable inflavor, texture, presentation, and overall experience. The Ramen was delicious, with layers and complex flavors from thesavory-sweet pork to the tangy pickled ginger. And the variety of textures was captivating with the soft boiled egg complimentedby the crisp slices of scallion all nestled in the warm and soothing texture of perfectly done noodles. The Scream roll was anamalgamation of fish, vegetables, rice and sauces that excited and invigorated the palate. I thought the addition of thejalapeño to the roll was truly inspired. I will be back again and again and again. This is definitely one of Decatur's bestkept foodie secrets. Read more
First time visit. Definitely not my last. The staff greeted as I entered for lunch and sat down to order. I started with... their gyoza appetizer. Very typical, and perhaps store bought which is common. I came here to try their Ramen. I orderedtheir Spicy Miso and the taste and temperature of their broth was hot and delicious. The noodles were a little over cooked formy liking, but enjoyed it none the less. On my next visit, I want to try their karaage and Don dishes. Wow! Chirashi, shrimp/vegi tempura were excellent on both quality and price. Their service was also great. Things I... wish. 1.Chirashi rice is watery, can't wrap with fish. I wish rice is a bit sticky so I can make my sushi with it, which is funwith Chirashi. 2.Ramen was not hot, but warm when served. Ramen I know needs to be real hot when it is served, so I can blow tocool down and eat. Beauty of Ramen. 3. beer license. My wife and I just ate here for the first time tonight, and holy smokes are we impressed. First of all, the restaurant is very... clean and decorated really cute. We ate on the nice outside patio. Secondly, the wait staff are so wonderful and kind. Can?t sayenough good things about them. And finally, the food!! The food is absolutely incredible. The best fried rice you?ll ever have.TRUST ME. We found this cute little place and are in love! Our new go-to date place! Quality of food and service were excellent! For being... open only a couple of months, their quality acts like they have been around for years. Their portions are fair and there is avariety to choose from. It is a little tricky to get in and out of the parking area but that is hardly something to complainabout. If you are craving Japanese/Asian dishes, go to them and nowhere else! Let me tell you I never ever take the time to leave a review of a place. But this place absolutely knocked my socks off. Some of... the best sushi I have ever had in my life, HUGE portions well worth your money. Mr. Lee who appears to be the owner and sushimaker was the most friendly man ever.
