Extraordinary. We celebrated our 46-year Wedding anniversary at Chez Michel. Executive Chef Winston prepared for us a 5-course... meal complimented with a beverage pairing for each course by Milynne. I rank this as a Michelin Star performance. The staff arealways ready to help, the premises are extremely clean, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifullypresented. Let me start by saying that I am a Restaurant Industry Professional with over 30 years experience in serving & managing and... still active working in a high-end steakhouse in Toronto. We have been in the area for almost 2 years now and have wanted togive this cute looking place a try. Also knowing the past history - we thought we couldn't go wrong. The establishment isclean and nicely laid out - a little dated with the decor. We were seated water dropped at the table at the same time - noteven poured for us - or given the chance to purchase bottled water. Our server Bria - brought our cocktails and we asked aboutFeatures. She rhymed off a few features - and took our appetizer order - escargot (which was okay - not enough garlic butterand too much cheese). We then heard another server give another table a more detailed features which included items she nevermentioned. We ordered wine - and our entrees - Steak & Frites and the Rack of Lamb feature. Once the entrees were delivered -didn't impress at all. My lamb was overcooked and the presentation looked like it was just thrown on the plate with no care. Ididn't understand the jus at the bottom of the bowl - - 2 potatoes cut in have and a few chucks of carrots - not what Iexpected. My husband steak was also just okay - fries were not hot. In all the time we eat we never saw our server - no tablecheck at all - she did not clear the empty cocktail glassware or offer more bread. Did not top up our wine at all. We took ourdessert to go - cheesecake - a small piece just put in a takeout container - not a single berry or coulis - $14.00. Now to ourtotal shock - the bill - THE RACK OF LAMB WAS $75.00 and FOR 6 ESCARGOT - $25.00. I have had lamb & escargot in many, manyplaces and to me these were very grossly overpriced items. Stopped here today for the first time and was thrilled to find this gem of a restaurant. We came for lunch and were welcomed... with fast and super friendly service. What I think is espcially fabulous is their commitment to adhering to and accomidatingdietary restrictions. My husband is gluten and lactose intolerant and they were able to offer several modified dishes for himwith no fuss. It helped us avoid feeling like a burden (we know how difficult it can be for kitchens to accomodate these things)and really made our lunch feel super special. Wonderful dining experience. Drove from Toronto just to have lunch here and we weren?t disappointed. Excellent food, attentive... and friendly service and reasonably priced ! Highly recommended. We had the Brie phyllo appetizer, stuffed burger (spinach andfeta), steak sandwich, omelette and triple layer, old-fashioned chocolate cake. We had a great dinner experience and enjoyed the visit. The food was tasty and menu has a good selection. Check out daily... specials! Just some notes why only 3 stars: the sirloin with lobster tail was ordered medium and came well well done; pea soupcame without spoon; bread basket was only served after follow up as well; we also had to follow up on a wine order. Overall thestaff should be better trained for the price and "fine dining" experience. Food great, service ok and therefore seemed pricey.We would come again. Read more
