We stopped in for a late lunch and were very pleased. Friendly staff and the food was very good. We had the grilled chicken... sandwich, which was very good! I took a look at the desserts, and splurged on the chocolate cream pie - absolutely delicious! Wish I could have tried the other desserts as they also looked scrumptious! I've eaten at the Old South restaurant three or four times. I think the best thing on the menu is the chicken fried steak, with... white gravy and a side of mashed potatoes with white gravy. We stopped in as we were passing through expecting some good country cooked food. It was terrible. My son ordered chicken... tenders and they brought him a frozen chicken patty cut into slices. My wife couldn?t even make at her Lima beans. They had zeroflavor. Read more
My father and I have been here a few times and I like this little small town staple. The service is always excellent and the... food reminds me of up north diner food. The fried seafood platters are good, as is the hamburger steak which my father seems tolove. I definitely recommend stopping in. Read more
My son and I had dinner on 3/3/22. I ordered grill fish, shrimp, collard greens and cabbage. When I ate the shrimp and looked at... the bottom of the bowl, I noticed a opened packet of sugar. Clearly the dish was not clean. I asked to speak with the managerand he never came to the table. I walked to the front of the restaurant to speak to him and his response was I should have seenthe sugar packet in the bowl. I reminded him that it?s not the customer responsibility to serve the customer (me) clean dishes.I also reminded him that we are in a Global Pandemic and cleanliness is more important than ever. I simple apology will havesuffice. Yet, the manager did not take responsibility nor apologizes. He threatened to call the police on me. Legal actions tofollow. Read more
Old South is a good name for this place. Old country style food your grandmother might make for you. Comforting, delicious, and... extremely affordable (the giant cup of navy beans and ham was $3). Everything needed some salt, but that's to be expected, asthe clientele is mostly elderly (at least when I was there). This isn't a problem though, salt shakers exist, and the flavorswere phenomenal. Had a great afternoon dinner here at Old South today. The Monday Meat Loaf special was delicious with a huge portion that also... included two sides. The pinto beans were nicely seasoned. We also ordered their soup and sandwich special. I chose meatloafsandwich, again a huge, delicious portion of meatloaf on a hoagie bun. The vegetable soup hit the spot too. Great place and great people. All the food there was flavorful and wait time was not long at all. You can tell effort is there... by food quality, attention to cooking things just right, and the amount of attention by serving staff. This was a great stop forus to eat dinner before finishing the last few hours of out journey north. This place was worth the stop. Read more
