The Mile Away Tavern is a rustic bar and grill located about a mile (or so) north of Council Bluffs on scenic Old Lincoln... Highway. A friend and I were out for a drive in the Loess Hills area and found this place by chance. It was lunch time we werehungry and we wanted to watch the Sunday football games. We walked in thru the lower level. (The upper level is the Mile Away'srental hall for parties) The tavern is rustic but clean and well maintained. Some would call this a cozy place. The place has afriendly vibe, both from the customers and the wait staff and the food was great. We tried the patty melt, cheddar cheeseburger, hot wings, onion rings and tater tots. The burgers were thick and savory and impressed me because I could tell they weremade from scratch with FRRSH ground beef. The wings were juicy and quite meaty. The buffalo sauce seemed to be homemade, buttery, not too sour, with just a touch of spicy heat. The onions were cut fresh, batter dipped and fried to golden brownperfection. The tots even impressed us as they were very light and flavorful, fresh fryer oil? I'm not sure, but I can honestlysay Ive never had tots like these, anywhere. We had a great experience at The Mile Away and we will be back! I made a returnvisit on November 1st 20 20 and sadly this place has declined a bit. The menu is now one single card and they have reduced itemsbut prices are higher. I'm not sure what happened they would probably blame it on the wuhan Chinesa virus. Just aguess. *Check out my photos and videos. IF this view was helpful please hit the the thumbs up button. Read more

Great wings! But the best experience was Ali the bartender she rocks! Why aren't you open earlier on Saturdays and Sundays so... bikers can stop in before they head out on the road. Think you're missing the boat there Read more
