Reviews for Origami Japanese Cuisine & Sushi Bar in Corpus Christi, TX
This was recommended by one of my husband?s coworkers, so we decided to try it out. The waitresses were friendly, and the menu... was simple which I can appreciate. Too many options for me will give me a headache. We got the tempura and miso soup to start.Miso soup was nice and hot, very comforting. The tempura was okay. It wasn't my favorite. The batter was light and airy, butjust not crispy enough for my liking. We waited close to an hour for our sushi because there was only one sushi chef, he wasalso an elderly man so we were understanding about it. We were a little taken aback when my husband?s sushi rolls took longthough. We had just finished our sashimi, and we waited another half an hour for his rolls. I will say that this is probably thefreshest sashimi I have had in TX. It just melts in your mouth, the slices were a little skimpy though. The rolls we got weredecent, we thought it was just average, but once again the fish tasted very fresh. Unfortunately, we left here a little lessthan content, so we had to go get a ?second? dinner. It was a nice experience to go here, but I don?t think we will be back. Read more
The food is ok at best. It did not feel like the food had any love put into it. The waiter was on point. You need to watch them... however. They charged us $10 more than what the menu showed. Sad to say you pay more and get less from here than a sushirestaurant in Wichita KS. Let that sink in. Read more
Our eyes were slightly burning in there and it smelled like a wet towel. Sushi is super tiny but cheap, was also pretty warm.... Took 40 minutes on a slow evening. Waitress was nice. Read more
In my honest opinion, there is little I can say that accurately describes how outstanding of a restaurant this is. With an... extraordinary atmosphere that makes you feel as if you traveled back in time, with extremely kind staff and food that is worthdouble what they charge. As an enormous fan of traditional Japanese architecture, cuisine and art this place has become my alltime favorite location to visit for a taste of truly beautiful aesthetic and food that has been perfected over decades oftradition. I highly recommend. Read more
The sushi is as authentic as it gets! The owner of the restaurant makes the sushi himself, and he is an absolute gem! Not only... is he perfect in his craft, but you can tell he takes great pride in his work. If you ever get the chance to try thisestablishment out, I highly recommend the dragon roll! It's freaking adorable! Read more
Origami has been a Corpus Christi essential establishment since 1990, I personally have been visiting since as long as I can... remember, my picture proudly hangs on the wall, a small 3 old buried deep into his soup bowl. The food is always great, and thesushi a exercise in perfection and dedication to true Japanese cuisine. The staff has had it's ups and downs but has settledinto a comfortable consistency that is both welcoming and efficient. The atmosphere takes you to Japan and is very homey.Overall I highly recommend this establishment. Ps try the Philadelphia Roll or the Dragon, both are excellent, and far betterpriced then many local rivals. If your in the mood for tempura its excellent and the Ginger steak while a smaller cut is alwaysexcellent. Read more
I always enjoy this place. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The food is so delicious and fresh. The waitstaff is always... polite and helpful. I usually order a meal and try some new sushi items I've never tried before. So far they have all been wellmade and delicious even if some weren't for me. The portions seem a bit small but then again I'm used to American sized so thisfeels even more authentic. Read more
