The Sliced Beef Sandwich had a generous portion of tender, pleasantly smokey, flavorful Brisket with onion and pickle slices. ... The Sausage Sandwich was peppery and moderately spicy with a nice smokiness on the house made Sausage. Their BBQ sauce issweet, vinegary and thick and goes well with their meats. The Onion Rings were thin-sliced, crisply battered and not greasy atall. The feel of the place is that of the classic, East Texas, "Q joint." My dad always sends me to Vernon's to get him some brisket, okra, & salted peanuts on my way up from Katy. He absolutely raves... about the bar-b-q. The brisket is too dry for me. It has almost no fat, even if you order it moist. But it's a solid, fun, beergarden, down home atmosphere. Something for everyone - even the kids. We sat outside & chowed down. Enjoyed the atmosphere.There's a lot on the menu. They even had smoked turkey. My dad also got a stuffed baked potato and said it was reallygood. You can order barbecue by the pound, too, but they have to split the order for togo food & dine-in. We ate outside(mid-October)around 3 p.m. and it was perfect. No wait. The Ham and Okra were good. The Brisket and sausage was below average. The mac and cheese tasted like plastic. The "smoked"... turkey was rubbery, old, and bland. Week old Thanksgiving turkey has better flavor. If you want Good barbecue don't go here. Thestaff was also kind of rude. Read more
