Reviews for Spicy Joi Banh Mi x Lao Street Food in Concord, CA
Wow this place is a must visit for yummy and authentic Lao food. I would order everything we got again. The crispy pork belly... and sausages was a perfect bite every time I ate it with the sticky rice dipped in the jeo. The banh mi is my favorite, the tofutastes smoked or charred, I?ve never had anything like it. The grilled chicken was just as good! I?d recommend taking home atleast 2 spicy pork rinds because they are bound to be eaten all in the car ride alone. The lemonades was perfectly sweet andrefreshing. And to complete the meal, we had Noelle?s perfectly made coconut desserts. I forget the name, it?s coconut layersthat are as pretty as they taste. Read more

Foods are good, taste is authentic. I would recommend to anyone who loves Thai, Laos, Vietnamese foods.
Best banh mi I have ever had. And I have had them from some of the legendary spots in San Jose for 17 years. Crusty bread on... the outside, warm 'n soft on the inside. Vegetables marinated to perfection and super cold, contrasted with the meat which waslikewise perfectly marinated and temperature hot. See the pics I attached. I ordered Xtra meat for a small charge. Well worthit. I've had both the BBQ pork sandwich and the chicken. I can't say one was better than the other, so next time I'm getting ahalf of each banh mi mixed together. I asked for a soy sauce to douse it and they gave me a nice bottle with dispenser topinstead of a plastic packet. Restaurant is impeccably clean, incl what I would describe as luxury hotel restrooms and sinks. And the employees are beyond super polite. The shiz! Read more
I was so excited to try this place! Since I don't live in the area, I ordered a bunch of things to try. Unfortunately, the food... was just okay. It was also pretty pricey for the portion size (and I get that costs are rising but quality and flavor wasn'tthere). NAM KHAO $15: One of my fav Lao dishes! This one was super sour - too much lime. The nam also wasn't that good. I loveto eat it wrapped in lettuce and herbs but the rice was on top of the lettuce and the whole process was just messy. LAO SAUSAGEPLATE $15: These sausages are solid but so small. ???? The sticky rice comes in a little plastic bag and the "veggies" it'sserved with is blanched cabbage - nothing special. The pepper dip was also not spicy. You're better off ordering sausages andsticky rice separately, and not as a combo plate. LAO PAPAYA SALAD $13: It was so salty so it wasn't enjoyable. :( RAW BEEFLAAB $18: I was happy they offered a raw option. However, it was so sweet for some reason. But since I also ordered it to be alittle bitter, it was a weird oveal flavor. The meat was also cut so chunky so the overall dish was chewy. I did love that thedish was served with raw veggies - Thai eggplants, green beans, and cucumbers. Unfortunately the flavor just wasn't there. KHAOLOD SONG $6: One of my favorite coconut milk desserts! The little pandan strings were only okay. There was a mix of old ones(bigger pieces that were harder and stale) and new ones (firm but still soft in texture). :( Overall, I'm glad I tried thisplace but I won't be returning. There's better Lao food options in the Bay Area. Despite my experience, I'm happy for thisrestaurant though and am glad they are offering Lao food to the local community. For those who have never tried Lao food, youall should still come try this place out. :) Read more
We've been going to Spicy Joi since they were a pop-up in Rockin' Crawfish and have eagerly awaited their new location opening... up! We went during soft opening and everything was fantastic. I would have ordered everything, but we settled on DrunkenNoodles, Spicy Lao Sausage, Bahn Mi, a Thai Coffee, Hibiscus Lemonade, and a few desserts! The food came out quickly and themural on the wall is stunning! Read more
The Quality doesn?t match the price ! This salad should be renamed a box of cabbage? A $13 box of salad with at least two-thirds... cabbage and only a handful of real salad in it. The cabbage wasn't even cut up, at least the cabbage in the sausage box wasstill cut up. Why don't I just go to the market next door and buy a package of cabbage? They didn't even give me utensils, howwas I supposed to eat it? This is definitely the first and last time here? Read more
I am so disappointed that I paid $15 plus tax for a ridiculous small portion of crispy pork belly with rice. I thought the... vegetables is the main dish and the crispy pork is a side dish. Half way through the meal. None of the crispy pork skin arecrispy. They tasted like rubber! I hate to see a good restaurant go downhill. Read more
