The staff was nice and the beer was cold and delicious but the cooks need to be told not to add so much salt to their food, also... my fish and chips were soggy and oily the fish had an after taste and again super salty I couldn?t eat it and my husband lefthis whole plate alone for fear of a heart attack. Cool place. Very good service. I got the 'Merican burger. It was a little dry. There wasn't any type of sauce on it. The... waitress did bring some ketchup packets however. The Mac n cheese was pretty good. There was a veggie burger ordered also. Wasdecent. Read more
After a long day of travel, popped into this hidden gem for a quick bite. Our server, Michelle, was fantastic - very friendly... and attentive. I had the regular wings tossed on the Carolina Gold bbq sauce. The wings were tasty - the sauce was sweet andtangy - but I wish they were just a tiny bit more crispy. Still delicious though. Nice environment and friendly staff. Disappointed in the food especially for the price. The ?premium? Macaroni for an additional... $2.99 is easy mac. The rest was alright, other than we asked for no onions, and the tacos came out loaded with them. Pow powshrimp was good, but nothing worth returning over. Read more
Tonight was my second experience at Hickory Tavern. My first time was several years ago and I got drinks upstairs, all was well.... We went tonight after tubing and we were pretty disappointed. My food was good but the portions are not very grand. One of mydrinks was wrong (our server did go to correct it!) and a few of my party's orders were messed up too. My bill, for two drinksand a meal, was $35 before tip and it just seemed a little ridiculous for the product. We went because a friend of mine had acraving and he was let down as well. The venue is cool and the food can be good but it's a gamble everytime. I'm not willing topay for 5 stars when that's not near what I'm getting... I hate to see a business not doing well in Columbia and I hope to seeimprovements but for now, Hickory Tavern is "Eh." Read more
Went a little b4 1pm on a Monday it wasn't too busy but it took about 20mins to get our drinks and then another 30 minutes to... get our food. I had the Cedar Salmon it was ok kinda bland and I wish the serving was bigger since it cost $19 and I got asliver of salmon. Baked oysters were pretty good though. Husband got the shrimp and grits and liked it. Server was very nice butwasn't wearing a mask which I didn't particularly enjoy. We sat outside so I can't comment on what the inside was like. Went there for the taco crawl downtown place was really lively very crowded. The tacos were upstairs. The service upstairs was... really great. The tacos were delicious. Decided to go downstairs and we went in and sat down. Tried to get a drink but that wasvery difficult. The waitress rolled her eyes and was very rude. They told us we needed to be set by hostess never came to seatus. When we ask the waitress a question she was kind of snappy and said she would get the hostess she sent over a black girlwhich I thought was kind of weird because she wasn't the hostess but maybe she thought she needed to send her because we wereblack and she went on to say the exact same thing that the other girl did and we were just like never mind. We don't need adrink now and we left. I had already decided when I was upstairs that I'm going to come back to this place because the food isreally good. That's one reason we went downstairs so that we could get a drink from the bar downstairs instead of the discountdrinks upstairs and we knew that you had to pay regular price. But I think that little young girl thought we were trying to getsome kind of bargain or something. I don't know what her problem was. After the service downstairs I have second thoughts aboutthat. I shared a meal of flaky fish and crispy chips at Hickory Tavern with some cool friends and enjoyed the lively atmosphere and... great food. I totally went overboard in satisfaction with Hickory Tavern. I recommend Hickory Tavern to anyone who wants thehave an excellent experience. Read more
