Blown away by the customized service I received last night while ordering takeout. Being pregnant, my doctor has advised me to... beware of sushi - even California rolls can pose risk if not prepared on a clean surface. I love sushi already and not beingable to have it has not been easy!???? The staff at Kumo was more than understanding of my situation and didn?t miss a beat.They immediately and thoroughly cleaned a surface in front of us and we were able to watch as they carefully prepared ourCalifornia rolls. We?ve been ordering here for about a year and a half and since the start of the year, the size of the rolls has gotten smaller.... Before that, they were consistently a large size and shape (the center contents/fish specifically), but have shrunk considerably(again, the center contents/fish part of the roll)?and on top of that, even within the same order, the pieces are differentsizes. This now happens more often than it doesn?t. Sometimes we get rolls how they used to be but it?s uncommon. Even so, it?sclose by so we kept giving it a try. That is until the last order a few weeks back?that was our last. In a year and a half,we?ve only expressed an issue twice. And only when the rolls exceeded a certain level of subpar. We know restaurants are in atough spot with COVID so gave the benefit of the doubt. We weren?t always happy with our orders but again, let it go unless theywere super off the mark. A few months back, when we called about the one order, the owner/manager was instantly defensive,cutting us off, acting like we didn?t understand how sushi was made, that we weren?t seeing things accurately, that we somehowmisunderstood. He denied any possibility that what we said was true. Then this last time (a few weeks ago), it was poor enoughquality again (like actually semi empty rolls), that we reluctantly called to say something. And sure enough, the owner/managerdid the same thing. He was immediately defensive, cut me off when talking, wouldn't listen to the problem, nor would he evenconsider the possibility that our order wasn?t up to standard. No matter what I said, he insisted that I wasn?t seeing thingsaccurately?that I didn't know how sushi was made, that the rice portion might be smaller (even though I repeatedly told him itwas the center filling), etc. I even offered to drive the order back to him. This is by far the best sushi place around, incredible owners, nice size rolls and always the best food quality. I have been... going here for over five years, I have never had a bad meal. The oysters, tuna madness rolls, Lady Gaga Roll, tuna avaocadosalad are amongst our favorites. I noticed one person saying rolls are different than a year ago...they are completely wrong. Sushi here is great. We got about 15 different rolls. All very good. Ingredients were excellent quality. Rolls and sashimi all... were wonderful. Balance of flavors in the rolls are delightful. Rock n' Roll, Bermuda Triangle, and Maple Roll were myfavorites. The staff were all extraordinary, helpful, attentive, and pleasant to work with. Highly recommend! Read more
We LOVE Kumo Sushi. We have been going for the past 5 years. One of the best sushi places in Montgomery County! Everything on... the menu is exceptional. I have 10 years of seafood experience and I have no complaints about the quality or the freshness oftheir fish and other seafood. I would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi. Response Update: I appreciate your response and will do so should we visit the establishment again. To note, we did not receive... a bounce back email, only an email from Google asking us about our experience. The woman at the reservation desk specificallystated "Sorry, we do not do Google reservations" in front of a waiting area full of patrons after I stated we have confirmation.Instead we were told there wasn't anything available until 8pm. It is understandable in this industry but a matter of diligenceto try and understand the miscommunication at the time could've been more helpful instead of the feeling of being brushedoff. We had one full experience here at Kumo and it was good. The first time there, I called and spoke to a woman who put usdown for an evening reservation. When we arrived, we did not have a reservation but she was able to seat our party of 4 anddinner was very good. Atmosphere & Staff were very nice also. We decided to try this again and this time decided to use the linkon Google to reserve a table for dinner on a Saturday evening. We arrived, they were very busy and once again, same womanstated there were no reservations for us although we had confirmation emails. We were told that they do NOT do Googlereservations. Anyone in the area knows that this is a huge damper on a Saturday evening. You can't get in anywhere else locallywithout one. The place is nice but if you plan on visiting, surely make a reservation however not sure how to advise. We lovea BYOB so that there is a plus... if you can get a table. Read more
