Reviews for Blue Elephant Royal Thai Cuisine in Clayton, MO
Service was great! However, food was okay. I ordered Beef Panang, it doesn?t taste and feel like Beef Panang.
We had a wonderful experience with the food, atmosphere, and service! We started with spring rolls and curry puffs. The spring... rolls were fresh and very stuffed (definitely veggie heavy moreso than the typical fried springroll experience) and the currypuffs were flaky and delicious. The yellow curry especially was bursting with flavor and had a good amount of heat, and thebasil chicken, chicken nut trio, and pad prik beef were also really tasty but mild (good if you don't like spicy). Finishing offwith mango sweet rice for dessert was a must, it was so yummy. We were stuffed! We'll definitely be coming again! Read more
My mom and I were excited to try this place out, but we were sorely disappointed and there is absolutely nothing royal about... this restaurant other than the fancy table decor. The service was okay, but the food was a DISASTER? First, the Papaya Saladhad a PIECE OF HAIR in it and that alone already ruined our experience. Of the few bites of Papaya Salad I had before I noticedthe piece of hair, the green beans and cherry tomatoes that came with it ruined the whole dish. We wanted to leave at thispoint, but we had already ordered our main dishes and felt bad about leaving. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and hopedthat our main dishes wouldn?t also have hair in them, but that was the least of our concerns by the time the Pad Thai and PadKee Mao came out. The presentation of the food looked like it was not authentic Thai AT ALL. After taking a bite, it wasliterally THE WORST Thai food my mom and I ever had and Thai food is my favorite so I?ve eaten at countless places in severalother cities. The Pad Thai was mainly made of bean sprouts and the noodles were hard and not fully cooked. The flavor was alsolacking. The only good thing about it were the chunks of tofu, but we could?ve cooked up some tofu at home. As for the Pad KeeMao, it was watery, had zero spice at all, and tasted purely of soy sauce and MSG. The flavor reminded me more of Pad See Ew,but a poorly executed Pad See Ew. Pad Kee Mao (aka Drunken Noodles) are supposed to be spicy!!! There was no ounce of red pepperin it at all so I had to ask the waiter for red pepper and a side of peanut sauce so I could add some spice and dull the soyflavor to it. Also, the noodles were not the normal thick noodles that come with Pad Kee Mao, the whole dish was white insteadof the usual brown look to the noodles, the peppers and the cherry tomatoes weren?t cooked all the way, and there was hardly anybasil in it. The only reason I?m giving them two stars instead of one is because I liked the elephants on Read more
Lovely people and service, terrible food. Their Thai fried rice was composed of steamed rice, raw onions and cherry tomatoes.... Their pad see-ew was bland to say the least. The staff was nice enough that I wish I could say nicer things, but as an amateurcook I feel like I could easily do better at home. Read more
The closest possible to actually being in Thailand. After longing for my favorite dish, Spicy Basil Beef or ?Pad Kra Prow? I... finally found it at Blue Elephant. Pro tip, order it with a fried egg sunny side up for added flavor. If you?re a spice headlike me I order fresh Thai chilis on the side and add them in for an authentic experience *be careful, they?re hot!* If youwork in Clayton or nearby, lunch here is the best, you will definitely run into me at least 2X a week! The food( we are vegetarian) is so delicious and really loved the portion of the food. It's so ideal amount enough for one... person and definitely can avoid taking Take out containers. Good for the environment. The dessert is the best one that I had inany Thai restaurants Read more
The atmosphere here was amazing!! The menu book was lovely as well. The food left a lot to be desired. The lunch special came... with a shrimp appetizer that I swear was just frozen shrimp I could have bought at a grocery store, baked and put bbq sauce onit. I ordered the shrimp Pad Thai, it didn?t pop with flavor as I?d hoped but was alright for the lunch special price. A friendI was with had a dish with some kind of sauce that seemed like it had a mayo base but wasn?t very good and was suppose to havelemon flavor. This place didn?t spell out authentic Thai to me. Even the rice was sub par. I was also confused about the candythat came with the bill. Read more
