Reviews for Big Tuna Sushi Bistro in Chico, CA
I?m a little late in my review, but I wanted to be sure to sing the praises of the restaurant. I have been to some note worthy... sushi restaurants in my travels. I will say Big Tuna Sushi Bistro is among them. The menu easy to navigate. There are familiarclassics for those who don?t want to go off the safe known path. And then there are other options for those who are adventurousto explore. I?ve been to small towns where the sushi has had a fishy taste, signaling it?s been kept too long. However, eventhough Chico is a college town, quality has not been sacrificed at Big Tuna. This is a credit to their Chef. Each time I sat ina little corner at the sushi bar to watch the culinary brigade make their specialty. The restaurant was usually packed likesardines. But the Chef?s team is well trained and accustomed to handling a sustained dinner rush. Each offering was beautifullyprepared and looked as appetizing as the last. And even through all this chaos, the Chef still took time out to educate me aboutthe fish and the offerings. Needles to say, the food was delicious. I typically would get the sushi or sashimi sampler. It wasthe closets thing I could get to an omakase-style offering, aside from their Omakase Roll. Each offering at each visit did notdisappoint. On other visits, I tried various items. The Salmon Bomber roll, the Chico roll, the Italian roll, the vegetabletempura, and the Shishito Peppers are the offerings that immediately come to mind because I ordered them often. I felt like Iwas eating the quality of a meal I could get at Uchi, Uchiko, Sugar Fish, and Nobu, all right here in the college town of Chico,CA. Whatever the magic this restaurant has cultivated here, it is my deepest desire that it supported and cultivated so I mayvisit it again to have another memorable culinary experience Read more
Fairly priced, even better food. Had to make changes to our order due to no supply but who doesn't have this issue these days.... Great vibe, lighting. Presentation of the food was on point. Look forward to going back. Read more
The new remodel is really nice. The service is excellent and friendly, great energy! Just wish they would add some new rolls to... the menu. Must try the Shiso Hot (under appetisers), crab and tuna tacos with egg plant shell (under appetisers) coconut shrimproll and Lion King roll were my favorite. Read more
The energy and dragon roll were the good rolls Panko oysters: the breading was moist like it wasn?t cooked fully and tasted... fishy Takoyaki: idk if it?s suppose to be wet/soggy in the middle but odd texture The rolls are smaller and more expensivecompared to Sacramento sushi locations. The raw fish on the sushi had an odd taste and was kind of warm which worries me becauseraw fish should be refrigerated/slightly cold? This place was a miss Read more
Way too good, the food here is classic and good, they have some festival favorites as well. This Friday was busy and packed and... the wait was about thirty minutes no matter the party size. It was well worth the wait though and they had some sports going onone channel and an anime on the other side to keep you entertained. We ordered takoyaki and chicken katsu don as well as a Shisofly roll. We also had a green tea cheesecake and a Midoriya for the alcoholic drink. Don't know if that was a nod to MHA but thename was cute and the drink was interesting. The food as usual was excellent and the service was great thank you very mucheveryone! Read more
We've dined at this location several times and I have to say not only is their sushi remarkable, but their service is good too.... The prices are fair, not too expensive at all and the atmosphere inside is surprising. It wasn't what I expected from thestorefront and the name. Definitely one of our favorite places to dine at in Chico. Read more
One of the best sushi places I?ve been to. There are a lot of good places in Chico but this one was nicer and also economical.... The server was really nice to us. We were 3 members and went there for brunch. We mostly liked Crunchy roll & Italian. Japanesetaco was a new concept. Tacos were made of thin sliced eggplant, battered & fried. Overall had a good time and would suggest togo before 7 if for dinner as this place closes at 8 and it?s pretty busy at evening. Read more
