Price - Expensive. 3/5 Japchae - Sweet. Nice portion. Could've sworn it was supposed to come with meat. Good dish, but not... knock your socks off good. 4/5 Chicken Galbi - Spicy, but not overwhelming. Moist. Tons of chicken. Shareable. Somewhat sweettowards the end. 4/5 Cucumbers - Amazing 5/5 Slaw - Meh. Pretty bland 2/5 Ssyal is an authentic Korean restaurant that iswelcome in the Chicagoland Area. It is highly rated, but I wasn't that impressed. The restaurant itself is small albeit notcramped like in yuppie areas. When I was there it was lifeless (a symptom of this relatively new COVID era) with me being theonly person there aside from what I later discovered to be an employee eating at the table next to me. I believe they even askedfor my vaccination card in-order for me to dine in. The presentation of the food is ok & for the most part the dishes are goodexcept for the slaw. The bathroom is nice although there is an odd bench in there for some reason (is someone else supposed towait there watching you while you do your business or what? Plus it's made out of pleather so no doubt it's soaked in whateverfluids have come out of people's bodies.) The apparent michelin recommendation comes with a price as some menu items will setyou back. It's worth nothing that if your order liquor, they will give you the entire bottle or at least that's what they didfor me. This makes sense because the prices are pretty much the same if not a little less than the retail bottle. At least now Ihave a bottle of Soju in my cellar. 3.5 out of 5 stars Read more

I loves Korean food that I almost have it every week. It’s my first time in the neighborhood on a Friday night . When I step... in here I was greeted with a friendly lady and help with sitting me down. Despite it took a while for them to take my order, Iwas helped and ordered with recommendations. Food service was fast, even though there’s only 2 servers. Overall food wasgreat, I over ordered for a party of 5 and asked for extra kimchi. Yet, I still enjoyed food and service here very much. I willrevisit again when I am at the neighborhood. Read more

Really good Korean restaurant! Everything came out hot and fresh, and the waitress we had was very welcoming and pleasant. The... portions were also really good. We ordered the fried dumplings, Korean fried chicken, bibimbap, and two bowls of soup, all ofwhich came out great. This was actually my first time having fried chicken and I loved it. I would recommend it to anybody whohas an appetite for Korean food. Read more

Ssyal was so satisfying, the best Korean food I've had in Chicago and the best samgyetang I've ever had! It really hit the spot... for this chilly day. We ordered a seafood pancake that was so large, full of seafood in every bite, and crispy without beinggreasy; actually, this was also the best seafood pancake I've had at a restaurant. The yukejang aka hangover soup had a veryclean and nostalgic taste, but the samgyetang stole the show. We ordered the Cha-O-Reum premium cornish hen samgyetang and thechicken was very tender. There was a long piece of ginseng on top with perfectly soft and sweet jejube and whole garlic piecesas well. The flavors were stewed for a very nourishing and soothing kind of broth that just makes you feel healthier aftereating it; anticipating radiant, glowing skin when I wake up tomorrow. Highly recommend! The do have a small parking lotadjacent to their restaurant, too! Read more

Everything tasted so fresh. This is more of a sit down homey kind of vibe. If you want more of a bar feel this is not the place... for you. It is definitely family and kid friendly. Everything was super clean. This is a family owned restaurant and the ladywas very fast on taking our orders and making sure everything came out on time as well. Definitely will come back again!
