Reviews for Publican Quality Meats in Chicago, IL
Ordered Thanksgiving takeout from this place. Was missing a pie and follows their directions to email if asking any questions. I... was refunded but no one got back to me and apologized for the inconvenience. Definitely left me with a weird feeling to spendhundreds of dollars and not even get a courtesy apology when they make a mistake. I understand the busyness for Thanksgiving, but it’d be easy to have a copy/paste, generic template of a reply to send out (because I’m sure I’m not the only onewhose order was messed up). It would take a few seconds to paste a template in a reply message and click send. Maybe havesomeone with some basic communication skills manage the emails in the future. The little things count, especially when making afirst impression. The food was good - the brussel sprouts and bread were the most liked side dishes at my house. The turkeyprovided ended up being very flavorful and delicious. The ham was lovely as well. I do wish they’d had mac n cheese as anoffering. Read more
Went into the deli for a last minute charcuterie board. They hooked me up! Christian and Julz were great. Excellent customer... service. And Colin, he is simply the master. Great quality. Great service. Will be back! Read more
We went here during restaurant week. The food was mediocre flavor wise, but we got norovirus poisoning from the raw oysters. ... We called a day later because we were literally too sick to call same day because it was that bad. The manager didn't returnour call or confirm they pulled the bad oysters out of circulation. Because they handled it so poorly I can't recommend thisplace to anyone. Read more
I live in the area and have frequented Publican many times- never a bad experience. I decided to go to Publican Quality Meats... for a pastry for the first time today and have never been so shocked by the dismissive attitude of the girl who was at the cashregister. I had asked her a simple question in regards to where the pastries were made and in response, she gave such anunhelpful and dismissive answer. Not to mention the egregious look she gave me when i was asking questions. Not to mention thechocolate croissant was insanely stale. I thew it away after a bite. All in all, incredibly turned off by this shop. And hopethat they better educate their workers. Read more
So disappointing. I used to go to PQM numerous times a week a few years ago. Their quality used to be top notch. Now, they... pulled their famous chicken parm sandwich off the menu, the bread they serve on their porchetta sandwich is dry, their beloved“marinated kale” dish is just large wet leaves of kale with zero flavor or craftsmanship, and they serve 1+ day old stalecookies at full price. It’s definitely no longer the business you know and love. Read more
Posting specifically about the restaurant week menu: it’s BOMB. Highly suggest you go with at least one other person and you... can both order the 2 different entrees (mussels & pork belly)- the pork belly is a little dry but once you mix it witheverything on the plate it’s MUAH to die for. Great selection of beer and the Serrano ham for the appetizer melts in yourmouth. I feel like a little kid with my review for the dessert but it was a sad portion to share between 2 people lol. Iactually asked a waiter if another portion of dessert was coming out. All is served family style if you + others are getting therestaurant week menu. All and all the space is loud and fun and rambunctious - will return Read more
Eating in Chicago means eating well, and Publican Quality Meats elevates that to eating right. Shout out to Head Butcher Rob,... your butcher's breakfast was eye-opening, and thanks for recommending it Leo. If I knew that is what you all get to eat forbreakfast, I would've applied a long time ago! They've crafted a unique offering, with everything from in-house pasta sauces totiny cans of whisky. Have gotten the Thanksgiving turkey from here for as long as they’ve had them. This year I decided to try pre-made sides and... pecan pie. The roux for the gravy was undercooked. Consequently, the gravy was thin and tasted like raw flour. The dressing wasso wet it had to cook for an hour to get to some normal consistency (instructions said 15 mins). The pecan pie had way too muchclove and cinnamon and was incredibly over baked. Mashed potatoes were bland even after following directions for reheat. Thesides and pie were $125. 2 stars for the taste of the dressing once cooked appropriately and the turkey is always fresh anddelicious. Just be sure you cook it yourself. Read more
