Reviews for Joe's Imports in Chicago, IL
I wanted to love this place. My boyfriend and I had been eagerly anticipating our reservation here, but it just wasn’t what we... thought it would be. The restaurant itself is pretty small and very loud. Our waiter came to take our order about 2 minutesafter we were seated. When we told him we needed just a couple minutes, we did not see him again for another 15. At that pointhe took our drink order and tried to scurry off; we told him we wanted to place our food order as well and he seemed annoyed. For drinks, we got the PCP and the Secret Garden. These were the highlight of the meal. They were delicious, though very smallfor $15. In terms of food, we tried the black cod, burrata, octopus arancini, and Brussels sprouts. We were underwhelmed by theburrata and the cod. Not bad, but nothing special. The burrata would have been better served with bread than with crackers. Iliked the Brussels sprouts, but felt that they were a bit hard and undercooked. My boyfriend and I agree that the octopusarancini was just bad. We could smell it (in a bad way) from the moment it arrived at the table. It was the only item we did notfinish. Overall, we felt that this meal was overpriced for the quantity and the quality of the food and service we received. There are better options in Fulton Market. Read more
Went in without expectations and left wanting for more. Granted, our meal was very bread heavy, but we love bread; yet didn’t... know 2 of the dishes were served with bread. The server seemed to be going through the motions. Wanted to order wine mid-mealbut by the time he came back, we’d finished our meal and had already been waiting for the check for about 10 minutes Reallyenjoyed the mussels, ask for a spoon to finish the broth, it’s was garlicky and delicious. The whipped ricotta needed a bitmore honey. While the tomato (on the tomato bread) had a nice consistency, definitely not something I’d order again. Favemenu item ordered was the steak tartare, which had an unexpected but welcomed spice. Read more
Favorite thing I ate was the Raviolo - so much flavor! Highly recommend trying it. The overall atmosphere was nice, food was... good, and service was great too. I also loved my Secret Garden cocktail and liked that it had flowers in it. I will say themusic selection seemed strange but it didn’t bother me. Read more
I’ve been longing to come here. It’s a cute lil wine & food bar in Fulton market area. They don’t offer wine flights but... have 5/8oz/bottle so we ended sharing 4 different-8oz bottle to make our own flights! Parmesan puffs were good, but I wasexpecting more melted cheese inside of the puff itself but the parm fondue was great! Octopus paella was surprisingly veryenjoyable. Def would go back 10/10! Overall very satisfied with my meal. I came by with my friend and brother after seeing that Joe's Imports received a Bib... Gourmand this year. The fried parmesan puffs were INCREDIBLE - I'm truly shocked this isn't reviewed more frequently. The burgerand whipped ricotta were also very tasty. The only disappointment was the cacio e pepe cheesecake - it was sweet but otherwisenothing special. Read more
Went to for restaurant week and got the 4 course meal. The service was great however the food was a bit underwhelming as we... heard about the great reviews. We wished the portion sizes were a bit bigger as we left still feeling hungry. The Octopus Paellawas really good however everything else was not that exciting. Read more
YES! YES! YES!!!! My wife and I are suckers for Italian food, which is perfect because Chicago always has so many new spots to... try. The problem is when you spend $$$, and get bland food, and meh experiences. Joe's is NOT that. This was one of the bestfood experiences we've had when comparing to our trip to Italy last year. First drinks: Under The Tuscan Rum, is fun, light, and a great cocktail! The PCP was surprising but in the best way! The wines were also very good. FOOD TIME: We started with theWhipped Ricotta which was very good. The honeycomb was the absolute best, but you can't forget the bread. It was buttery andcrispy, and the perfect vessel for the ricotta. We also ordered the Raviolo and the Gnudi. The Raviolo was perfectly cooked, andthe filling was very yummy. The broth was the perfect compliment. The Gnudi was by far our favorite dish. Super soft dumplings, amazing pesto, warm olives (its good, trust me). YUM! We were not going to get dessert but kept staring at the Berry Shortcake, and then were very glad we ordered it. I kept imaging myself as Pru and Paul, having nothing but good things to say while eatingan amazing dessert. Ambiance, Service and decor were also very delightful. Read more
We are visiting from Seattle and LOVED this place. Staff were so friendly and helped guide us through the menu. Chef Aras came... to the table to talk through my allergies. He was so knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating. The GM, John, also came overseveral times to check on us to make sure we were having a great time every step of the meal. We will be coming back for brunchtomorrow! Read more
