Reviews for Freehand Chicago in Chicago, IL
For the given price it is a great option! Super cozy lounge. The rooms are also nice, however, not enough natural light. We had... a small issue with an A/C but they immediately offered to give us at least a fan. The location is also superb. Read more
Pretty nice place to stay. I love the cleaning service that is always efficient and kind. Also the reception attendance and the... coffee bar was nice; breakfast is delicious and a good price. The only disappointing thing is that in the web site announce freebreakfast services included in sharing rooms what is not true; so if you are traveling with Low budget be prepared to have tobuy something for eat each day of your stay. Rooms was confortable and cozy Read more
If you?re looking for a really big, spacious, room, these are probably not the rooms for you. However, if you?re looking for a... hotel room with everything you need in it, this is great! The desk was great to work at, the Bluetooth speaker was nice, andeven though there was someone in the room right next to me, it was pretty quiet. Additionally, the staff were all very friendlyand helpful. I had to have someone come look at the AC in the first room I was in. He came to my room right away, looked at themachine, and we thought we had it up and running. It ended up needing more fixing than what could happen while I was in theroom, but the staff was super friendly and super helpful getting me settled into another room with working AC. I woulddefinitely stay here for work travel in the future. It?s a great location, reasonably priced, and the room was comfy. It waseverything needed for an enjoyable stay! Read more
BLACK MOLD lined the shower. It was everywhere! When I talked to the front desk they made it seem like it was nothing, like it... had happened before and had someone go clean it up but you could still see black spots. No bleach was used, we would have smeltit. The rooms are the smallest I?ve ever seen. The beds are tucked in a corner sideways so the other person in bed has to climbover the other. The mattress was the worst I?ve seen. Every time I moved the springs moved and poked me. I?m a side sleeper andmy hip touched the platform it was on. My hips were sore the next day. No box springs here. The elevator is what nightmares aremade of! There are so many rooms to this hotel that every time you use it you?d have to cram in there and it?s so small anddark. The staff was highly unfriendly. They acted like they just wanted to get through the high volume of people and hope no onewould complain. They seem very guarded. When we left they didn?t even ask how are stay was. Barely looked up from the computer.Oh and nothing else was done with the black mold. I can?t believe we paid $200 a night for black mold, barely there broken downmattress, no breakfast, cramped shower and no consideration for guests. Read more
An eclectic space in the heart of downtown Chicago. It's a modernized, renovated version of an older hotel that has a really... nice vibe for creative minded people. The venue has a nice selection of books, board games, some instruments to play in the backpart of their lobby just past the front desk, elevators, and front bar. The bar includes a tapas-style selection from theirfood menu. It has several craft drink selections that are nicely priced in comparison to other bars in the area. Outside of theeclectic atmosphere, the place is pretty tight. So, if you're claustrophobic, this may not be the place for you. The room thatI stayed in was more like a studio apartment minus some amenities like a microwave and mini-fridge. If I had brought food backfrom an outing, I either had to eat it that night or let it spoil. Along with that, there wasn't much room to place luggage bags(especially if you have more than 1 bag). If you're a taller-than-average person (+6 feet) the beds in the room will force youcurl up, not really allowing you to stretch out in the bed. I can only speak for that style of room. There are other optionsavailable through booking on the hotel website. I will have to reserve a different room for a more accommodatingexperience. I'm not opposed to this hotel whatsoever. The location, as well as, the ambiance is great! I think that I need togive it another try when I visit Chicago again. Read more
Excellent location in the city! So easy to walk to everything we wanted to do for the weekend. It was a great stay in a quad... room for the night. Had all the essentials and it was quiet with comfortable beds. Staff was very kind and a pleasure to workwith. Will definitely look to stay here when we return to the city. Read more
Got a room beside the elevator shaft, which produced a lot of noise, probably due to the mechanisms of the old elevator. This... was a dark spot for an otherwise comfortable and affordable stay. The room was well designed, with all the necessities presentdespite its small size, which can also be said of the bathroom. Just be sure to bring your own water as it isn't available inyour room and getting some at the lobby will cost you. Read more
This was my first time to Chicago, and wanted to stay somewhere that wouldn?t break the bank. Freehand did not disappoint! I... stayed in a female quad room. It was small yes, but not unmanageable. Since it?s an older building, I wasn?t expecting anythingextravagant. What really got me was the vibe. Everyone was super friendly: the staff, the other guests, the nice gal workingbehind the bar for brunch. When I came back from my event, the lounge in back was really hopping. I was pretty tired so I didn?tpartake, but it looked fun. Bed was comfy, my only complaint would be that the lamp in my pod didn?t work. I relied on my phoneflashlight. I feel I got a great deal money wise. If I find myself in Chicago again, I?ll definitely be staying here again. Read more
