Reviews for City Winery Riverwalk in Chicago, IL
Grab a bottle of wine and sit wherever on front. Simple easy to drink wine here and billion dollars views.
Great location, they serving style is out of the traditional so it makes a cool experience. We order bottles of cava and sat on... the stairs and watched the boats on the river I’d highly recommend :) Read more
Nous avons commandé ce « plateau » de fromage. We ordered the cheese plate. It was unfresh! There was a lot of bread and... crackers but the cheese??? Read more
Location is great! They accommodate furry friends! Thank you! The manager even made sure my pup had water. I had a lobster roll... and my wife had burrata. Sounds like the burrata was good because it is hard to mess up…..however, let’s talk about thelobster roll. Now, I only ordered it because my son wanted to share. The price was fair at $29; however, compared to a legitlobster roll, City Winery skimped on lobster. No claw meat or tail meat was distinguishable. They toss a chopped up chili withseeds and pith so the level of spice is ~20x a jalapeño, which is fine, but 100% masked any lobster flavor that should havebeen present. The roll also came out cold, though it was toasted and should have been hot. This is difficult to accomplish on aday that is 90°. My chips were also soggy and were bbq chips not truffle chips as promised on the menu. I’ve been to the NYClocation many times and the food there is outstanding. Unfortunately, the food in Chicago left me feeling like I should havejust grabbed a Wawa burger. Read more
Tl;dr: Touristy--nice view but unimpressive, overpriced food. I recognize this is a tourist area but they need to try a little.... This may be someone's only vacation that year and to provide such a low quality experience is sad. The view of the river isgood but the food we ordered was poor. We got a meat platter for $18 and cheese platter $18 (June 2022). Portion size was small, cheese was of discount grocery quality, and crackers were very stale. We honestly, seriously considered returning everything andeating elsewhere but we had already each tried a bite, which was an unfortunately large percentage of the plates. At least thetoasted bread and grapes were good. The wine was suited to a touristy place: very sweet and generally easy to drink but lackingdepth and character. We ordered a red wine blend and a Cabernet Sauvignon and both were so sweet and homogeneous we had troubletelling them apart. Maybe some of their other dishes and drinks were good, but unfortunately I can't recommend thisplace. (Image is prior to divying out any bree or blue cheese; there were 4 slices of cheddar cheese, maybe 10 slices of apepperoni style meat, and 2 slices of prosciutto, which we had to cut in half to share with 4 people.) TLDR: loved the staff but for $250 for two people I would opt for somewhere else. The only reason this place has any stars... (Granted I can’t give zero, I wanted to give two at first for them, but for the food had to come back and give it one) is forthe staff. Super friendly and want to make the poor food experience you’re about to have as enjoyable as possible. Nocomplaints about any of the people who helped us. If it weren’t for them I probably would’ve complained onsite for the pricewe paid. Got a dome for two and when making the reservation they had us pre-select our 4 course meal. See our selections inphoto attached. Burrata was probably the best part. Charcuterie board was okay enough so that no blaring red flags were beingraised at this point. Salads were coming out in paper bowls and were comparable in quality to something you would get at Panera(not the best, but not the worst). Main entrees were the biggest disappointment. The sliders consisted of 3 buns, 3 overcookedslices of beef, and 4 pieces of asparagus. The salmon was the color of a chicken breast and the couscous was seasoned with salt, salt, and from what I could taste, salt. The dessert platter when I was making the reservation I guess was free, but definitelycould’ve just gotten a 4oz container of mixed fruit, a slice of a lemon loaf, and a slice of coffee cake from Kroger for $5instead and would’ve been way better. Everything mentioned above for $160 and still paid $90 more for a couple things of wine(sizing in pictures). The mice that came to visit us a couple times in the dome were cute. Nobody involved with the restaurantcan do anything about this given that we’re eating next to the Chicago at night time, nor would I want them to as an animallover but it just added to the experience that we were already laughing about. Overall, whoever is actually in charge of thisplace needs to realize that location is not everything for a dining experience. If they made some serious changes Read more
Great views and ambiance. We visited during lunch hours on a Sunday and had the Buratta and Shrimp Ceviche and Mimosas and... everything was wonderful. Staff was pleasant and responsive and we'll definitely visit again. Read more
I decided to stop in this little place for a nice glass of bubbles by the river. I won't lie that I wasn't expecting much, and... was mostly expecting a decent view. There are two sides of this establishment. The right side is for self service and the leftside is for table service. I personally only did the left side of the restaurant as I wanted a sit down experience. I ended upbeing pleasantly surprised, the staff were friendly and the cava was good. As the wine served is all a part of the city wineryvineyards it's not easy to check and find out what is good without just trying it. I cannot rate the quality of the food orother beverages, but if you want to enjoy bubbles downtown on the river this place is a great spot. Read more
