During my brother's last full day in Chicago (he was in town for the holidays), we visited the Chicago Distilling Company for a... tour of their facilities. We have a couple of distilleries in and around Chicago and I've had a chance to visit a few, but thisis the first time I had an opportunity to go to this nearby distillery. This is a friendly and inviting place that welcomes youas soon as you come in the door. They only feature their creations, which includes cocktails on tap and "booze in a cancocktails". The tour was well done. The review of how these spirits were made was factual and presented with a nice human touch(you learn how the owners decided to become distillers)...and it was obvious that the master distiller really loved what he wasdoing. They make gin, vodka, and a variety of whiskeys and even aged in a whiskey barrel maple syrup. We sampled severalwhiskies including their single malt, bourbon, rye and whisky made using grains typically used for beer. Of all the spirits, Ifound the gin the very best. This gin would make a great gin and tonic or martini. It also happens to be their best sellingspirit. I brought home a 4 pack of their "Chicago Mule in a can cocktail" for my lovely wife. I'm waiting for her taste testingreview now. I can highly recommend that you visit the Chicago Distilling Company and go on one of their tours ($10/person).You'll be glad you did. Read more
It's rare to find a distillery here (Koval, Few and CH are the only other ones that I can think of), but any distillery that... ages their product in things like _Rauchbier_ barrels is a distillery/bar you want to visit. Read more
Great to see more distilling in Chicago. Kind of an fitting thing if you think of the history. I enjoyed the Rye more than the... Bourbon. Hand crafted cocktails are a great choice, old fashioned for the win! Read more
We were a group of 10 enthusiastic ladies on a bachelorette distillery tour at the Chicago Distilling Company. The tour guide... and owner gave us an informative and light-hearted tour, teaching the ins-and-outs and history of their operation withcharismatic humor. We learn to number of secret "fun facts" about the company and were proud to contribute to theirsuccess. After the tour we enjoyed drinks at the bar which had super fashionable and kind bartenders. I?m a huge fan of microbreweries and for the first time I tried distillery. I was very satisfied. We sat by the bar right by the... bartender. We tried six drinks there and all of them were different, unique and good tasting. Our bartender was very friendly,and all the time I saw her working really fast. She explained to us all the process and all unique ingredients. It wasn't justserving us what we were asking for but she also told us drink names and what was in it. She was uniquely friendly. Really great tasting room. Sadly they haven?t resumed doing tours since Covid hit, but the bartenders all know about how each... spirit is made. Super high quality spirits and the distillers play around with different mixes (try the espresso vodka!). Somecocktails were handmade and others canned but both excellent. Cool, low key spot.
