Reviews for Cafe El Meson in Chicago, IL
This place is great to just hang out alone or with friends. They also have karaoke nights! They sell amazing food & drinks... plus educational books & more. The upstairs is cozy, like hanging in a friend's living room. They also have a beautiful backpatio with lights. Read more

The staff was friendly and kind. The environment was pretty clean. I'm not sure if they wipe the tables after every person.... Decided to try out the restaurant because I'm naturally from the Humboldt Park area ???????? and never seen a boricua restaurantout in the area. I order a drink and a sandwich (roughly around 15). The sauce of the rice caught me off guard because boricuasdon't typically do spicy food. It was interesting however. I ordered my sandwich with no onions and half way I saw it that therewas onions tucked (inside if the folded meat) hidden. Not a fan of that. My food was warm while the other person's was hot.Overall it was pretty decent it if I had to be honest. Read more

I discovered this place several years ago when I was looking for a coffeeshop near my house. I was pleasantly surprised to find... that they not only have great coffee drinks but also yummy smoothies, sandwiches, quesitos (Puerto Rican pastries), empanadas, and more (including books/gifts). Everything that I've tried on the menu is delicious. The owner, Juan, is absolutely wonderful. You can tell that he really cares for people and the community (his tagline for the shop is "un lugar para ti" which means aplace/refuge for you). And if you're lucky enough to go during the summer, you'll most likely be served by one of his kids, allwho take after their dad in terms of kindness and generosity. They've got an upstairs room which is great for studying and/orsmall group gatherings and an outdoor patio too. I hear that you can also rent the space for private events. Great place for adrink, snack, and/or meal while having a great conversation. Definitely a place worth checking out. Read more
