Reviews for Abuelo's Mexican Restaurant in Chesapeake, VA
Lesson learned, don't eat at a Mexican restaurant and not one Mexican in sight. The drinks were weak, we ordered the fajitas for... two and this is what we got, tortillas hard, just a total disappointment and will never come here again. Shameful! Oh, and thebeans had pork in them! Never again! So much for a birthday celebration. Read more
The ambiance and service was good but the food was nothing to write home about. The salsa was a little too runny for my liking... and the chicken for my fajitas was not seasoned that well. Gave 3 stars because the food wasn’t nasty by any means just neededa little seasoning and we would be good to go. Read more
1st time Good food not really a fan of places that fill you up before your food comes. Waitress Karma was alright. Certain... request had to be repeated, bought food to everyone without forks or napkins. We requested limes, waited a while so we took themout of our margaritas to squeeze over our food. ???? The restaurant was very clean and our host was very kind and welcoming. We ordered the Enchiladas and they were not good. Our... plates were very hot as if they were microwaved. The Enchiladas were of store bought frozen quality. The refried beans were verydry (happens in my experience when you microwave them). The food I saw other people had looked very appealing so I was surprisedwith my food quality. I don't like that I paid $25 for what felt like was microwaved. I would like to give a second chance basedof what I saw others had, but will probably not be coming back. Again, Our host was great so thank you for that. Read more
For such a big Mexican restaurant and with beautiful décor, this place really misses the spot. The service is rude, the prices... are way to pricey, and the quality of the food is tasteless and seemingly microwaved and/or reheated. I usually leave longreviews raving about how great a restaurant is or what it isn’t, this one misses the mark so badly that I do not even want towaste my time. Best thing about this is location and the décor both indoors and outdoors. I suggest skipping this one andheading to the nearest Azteca or even Taco Bell. Read more
Couldn't have asked for a better experience or tastier food. Service was A+. I ordered the fajita salad with shrimp w/ the... honey lime dressing. The shrimp was a delight, cooked to perfection. I asked for it in the lightly fried tortilla bowl, and dareI say.. tastiest bowl I've ever had at a Mexican restaurant. Unprompted, the manager came over to ask us how our meal was. Hewas super welcoming. These Virginia Beach residents will definitely be trekking to Chesapeake more often! Read more
This place is amazing!! My coworker & I are here for training for a week and we went twice in one day! By the far the... friendliest place we’ve been to yet(a lot of places here don’t feel friendly) everything from the hostess’s(day + nightshift) plus the servers (even the one training) were awesome! We even got to meet the guy running the show who was so friendly. The food is so so soooooo good!!! Big portions, yummy chips and salsa and awesome drinks!! If we ever come back to Chesapeake wewill most definitely make our way back to Abuelo’s!! Read more
Never coming here again honestly! The inside is beautiful and our waiter was ok, but the food was terrible. This place is just a... fancy over priced Taco Bell. All of the food was very bland and had no seasoning we had to add on salt and pepper. The onionsand peppers were in chunks and not even fully cooked. The salsa, beans, and cheese all looked and tasted like they came out of acan or box. It was not authentic at all and we were the only Hispanics there. Then we asked for the vegetarian cheese dip andour white waitress said “do you mean kaysow?” And I was baffled. It was like this place was appropriating my culture andhumiliating us in the process.
