Great place to eat! The food is so good. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I would give more stars if I could.

This was in our top 3 restaurants when we lived in Chattanooga. When we ate on our last visit they had turned into a buffet... that weighed the plate. Like at a hospital. And no fried cornbread! ???? It was heartbreaking! Also no hot banana pudding!Another heartbreak! Read more

The Star was a frequent lunch spot when I worked downtown, only a couple blocks away. Daily specials were always a bargain,... although it was a tough call on days when they had both fried chicken and meatloaf. If the restaurant is too busy to wait for atable, there is a takeout counter in the rear. Read more

We are visiting from out of state and got the recommendation to come here. WOW! Completely blown away by everything we ate and... the price. This will be a stop every time we are in Chattanooga or even driving through Tennessee in general. Read more

I am traveling with my children (ages 8 and 10) and my parents. Southern Star's menu provided enough options to satisfy all of... our food preferences, which is a tough order with kids who rarely enjoy eating at the same restaurant ???? Southern Staroffered the the absolute BEST food and service of all the restaurants we ate at during our family vacation! It was so good thatwe ate there two days in a row! The macaroni and cheese was a big hit as was the fried squash, beets, pork tenderloin and friedchicken. If they offer a baked apple and cheese dish, take the risk and try it! You will be delightfully surprised. Also, do notpass on the desserts! They are just like the ones my grandmother would make when I was a child some 30 years ago. In a word, this is my all time FAVORITE restaurant. I would come back to Chattanooga just to eat here! Read more

Great service. Everyone was very friendly! I ordered pork chops, lima beans, fried okra, and dressing. Food was good. I didn't... like the dressing only because it was a mix of bread and cornbread. It was good but not a fan of that combination for dressing. Read more
